Located in Karuizawa, Kyukaruizawa Kikyo, Curio Collection by Hilton is situated a 6-minute walk from Kyu Karuizawa Ginza Dori shopping street. The service was excellent and the staff went out of their way to assist us and make our stay as comfortable as possible. Despite being an upmarket hotel, they were still very accommodating and welcoming of our toddler and there were extra amenities for her which were appreciated. The hotel is situated in the older part of Karuizawa and is within walking distance of many beautiful attractions and restaurants/cafes. The breakfast is also excellent.

Set in Chino, ノマの森 Nomanomori B&B offers free WiFi, and guests can enjoy a garden, a terrace and a bar. The hosts are kind and thoughtful and gave us very good advice for dinner locally and for our next destination. Best of all, the breakfast was delicious and kept us going all day. Our room was small, but we knew that when we booked so we were not bothered by that in any way. Aovely way to break up the trip from Tokyo to Kamikochi if you have a car and it is worth a visit just for the sake of being there.

Oshi Ryokan is located in Nagano, 20 km from Zenkoji Temple, 22 km from Nagano Station, as well as 32 km from Suzaka City Zoo. The dinner and breakfast were very good, and absolutely worth the price. The room was well-insulated, and had a warm kotatsu, heater and comfy beds to deal with the cold. The bath, while shared, was very nice. The service was exceptional - thank you for putting up with us, Oshi.

The staff is lovely, the service excellent, and the food delicious. We went off-season so it was very quiet and peaceful to stroll around the little town and visit the public onsen with the yukata and shoes provided by the ryokan. The best one was the bath in the hotel though. They also offer a free shuttle service for the station and monkey park as well. We felt pampered and well taken care of at all times.
