We had a wonderful stay at Mampei Hotel, a beautiful hotel with a long and rich history. The staff were exceptionally helpful, especially Mr. Komiyama (if I got his name right), who went out of his way to assist us. The atmosphere was warm and peaceful, and it was special to stay at a place once frequented by John Lennon. Our room was elegant and comfortable, with a private onsen bath, and breakfast was thoughtfully prepared to accommodate our dietary restrictions. The scenic drive in and proximity to the old Ginza street added to the charm. A truly memorable and happy experience.

Offering a barbecue and ski storage space, AIBIYA is located in Yamanouchi in the Nagano Region, 4.1 km from Jigokudani Monkey Park. It’s a newly renovated traditional lodge! You really get to experience staying in a traditional Japanese home. The room was spacious and clean!

The hosts are kind and thoughtful and gave us very good advice for dinner locally and for our next destination. Best of all, the breakfast was delicious and kept us going all day. Our room was small, but we knew that when we booked so we were not bothered by that in any way. Aovely way to break up the trip from Tokyo to Kamikochi if you have a car and it is worth a visit just for the sake of being there.

Opened in August 2012, B&B Hotel Hyochoan offers simple Western-style accommodations. Free in-room WiFi is available and guests can enjoy bird watching from the property’s terrace. The owners are very hospitable . The owner gave us a ride back to the train station and made a couple sightseeing stops and even took pictures for us. The breakfast was exceptional homemade Japanese food using top quality ingredient. We were even served a gold award sake which was excellent. The bed was super comfy. The property is within walking distance to nearby restaurants and onsen.

The dinner and breakfast were very good, and absolutely worth the price. The room was well-insulated, and had a warm kotatsu, heater and comfy beds to deal with the cold. The bath, while shared, was very nice. The service was exceptional - thank you for putting up with us, Oshi.

At Daymaruya Ryokan, guests can enjoy hot-spring baths and traditional Japanese-style accommodations with free wired internet access. Traditional Ryokan with with extremely nice owners. They picked/droped us at Yudanaka station and gave us ride to Monkey Park. It was our second ryokan in Japan and this one was much better, very quiet and comfortable. There is heater in the room for cold nights. Onsens in ladies and gents bathroom and a key to private one which you can use anytime if it is free. Nice location to walk and experience all nine public onsens.

Located in the Shibu hot-spring district, guests can enjoy indoor and outdoor hot-spring baths at Suminoyu. Massages can be requested and a footbath is also available for extra relaxation. The staff are so kind and helpful. It was such a relaxing stay and the food was very restorative. They picked us up from the train station and dropped us at the monkey park.

A small 6-room inn with Ryokan meals and cosy interiors, Yasuragi is just a few minutes drive to Jigokudani Monkey Park and an 8-minute walk from Yudanaka Train Station. Hot-spring baths are featured.... We really liked Yudanaka Yasuragi. The owners did everything to make us feel comfortable—they picked us up from the train station, drove us to the monkey park the next day, and were generally very kind and eager to help. The food was amazing—you really can't miss the dinner they serve there; it was one of the best we had in Japan. The onsen is fantastic, and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. You should definitely visit this place!
