I don't typically write reviews, but in certain cases an exception must be made, and this was one of those cases. Our experience at the Nazuna Ryokan was phenomenal from start to finish. The entire process was a case study in consideration and service for guests. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, the meals were delicious and well presented. The room we stayed in (Hojicha?), was immaculate and spacious. Already thinking of the return trip based on our overall experience this time.

The breakfast was beautifully presented. It is a traditional Japanese breakfast and may not be to some people's taste. It's worth trying though!
We had made a mistake with our booking, and could only arrive after the 9pm cut off (guests MUST check in before 9pm). The owner was very understanding and refunded our money despite their cancellation policy. I was very impressed with this small business.

Hi, once i left my comment but disapeared :/
Ok trying once more :D Very nice hote and had tradicinal ryokan, they also provide yukata for everyone, polite staff, they do nice traditional breakfast, also they can organize traditional tea ceremony with renting the kimono.
We had very nice stay.
The hotel was a classic ryokan style with tatami mats, futon service, public bath (which could be booked privately) and traditional breakfasts every morning. The view of the pagoda from the room is spectacular. Our stay was made special by the lovely staff who made our stay perfect!
Simply stunning. Lovely to stay in a ryokan, a traditional Japanese inn. Our lady was exceptional, giving first class treatment in talking us through many dishes she served, constantly topping our water, cleaning our teapot. V filling so be warned and you get to try things you wouldn’t get these days or in chain hotels. The onsen was a relief from the long journey. The futons v comfy. It was so unique to switch off, enjoy tranquility.
The hosts were extremely gracious, and I love that it’s family-owned, in the building they live in! There is lovely tatami in the rooms and pretty comfy futons, with beautiful, minimalist decoration. Yukata and tea were provided for a full, relaxing ryokan stay.
An authentic ryokan, in a building that's probably well over 100 years old. The rooms have tatami mats and futons and the onsen is beautiful. It's like staying in someone's home! This is not a super-swish modern hotel, so if that's what you want go elsewhere, but if you want a place with real character, staffed by people who treat you as long-lost friends, then this is the place for you. We will certainly return next time we're in Kyoto.
It's a ryokan in a high building where you get yukatas, bento breakfast (beef is best), futons on the floor and a wonderful indoor onsen. We lived there for 3 nights and the best time to vizit the onsen was at 4 pm or about midnight.
We walked to Gyon and Kiyomizu-dera, it took about 30-40 min.
This Ryokan is located near several bus stops, perfect to sightsee Kyoto. The JR station is 10 min bus far away. The staff was very kind and warm as a real example of Japanese hospitality. This stay offers also several services like bike rental and onsen free tickets. The location was very relaxfull and quiet. Our room was equipped with tatami floor and futon beds. The room has several amenties, shower and bath tub. It has been a real japanese experience. We loved it!
If you want to spend a few nights in a real ryokan (not the edulcorated-for-tourist replicas), this might be the real deal. Wooden and paper panels, tatami, futons, internal garden, traditional shower, in-room tea-set, yukatas, and many other details. My kids (14 and 11 y.o) said this was the best hotel in our 3-weeks-trip throughout Japan. The staff is very kind and eager to make your stay great.
traditional tatami room with futon, welcome tea with sweets, Japanese Yukata, small Japanese courtyard, free onsen, happy-hour tea and snacks, and friendly staffs
