Experience culture authentically with a stay at this traditional Japanese-style accommodation. Sleep on the floor (on a futon roll) in a room furnished with tatami flooring and sliding doors. Guests can often expect access to a communal bath plus a complimentary Japanese garment called a yukata.
The attention to detail at Roka made the stay very comfortable and convenient. The rooms are so spacious and gorgeous, of course the private onsen was the highlight. It’s very peaceful and I didn’t hear my neighbours. I’d recommend two nights as it’s the best stay in all of Japan for sure. The staff are all so friendly and helpful.
Hotel was ideally located for the ferry, transport around the island, and facilities in the town (restaurants / onsen / 7-eleven etc). The staff were super helpful and did our laundry for us (for a small fee), and we were also able to order pizza for dinner one night, which we enjoyed on our balcony after a day of sightseeing.
Love the space! It was so cute.
I had a private bathroom + toilet, and double bed, in a tatami room (so take off your shoes). The cute owner gave me a yukata to wear for the night, as well as tea. No complaints, and the owner was warm and nice.
There are 2 ports in Naoshima, and this place is near Honmura port, where a lot of restaurants are, so you won’t have trouble finding dinner.
Naoshima overall was a wonderful experience, and my stay here made it even better! Would love to come back again❤️🙏
Roka Ryokan is a must if you plan to stay on Naoshima. My partner and I stayed in the deluxe ryokan in March 2024 which was absolutely beautiful. I would recommend this time of year where it’s not too cold to cycle around the island, however you can open up the doors and have the cool air enter the onsen area.
The dinner included within the room was a highlight of the trip, where the beautifully curated menu showcased some of Japan’s best cuisine. We had a very special time here and will remember it forever!
We made our own breakfast in the well-equipped kitchen which was great.
Loved the tatami rooms which reminded us of the ryokans we stayed at in Japan
Beautifully decorated with kitschy collectibles which were familiar.
Comfortable temperature in the rooms. And comfy beds.
Beautiful Ryokan, great and very attentive staff, excellent service, outstanding food - a very well deserved 10/10 and we hope to come back again soon! Location of the Ryokan is great to explore the whole island by foot or bycicle. The sushi dinner was the best sushi we had during one month in Japan. The room with the traditional onsen bath is beautifully designed and the attention to details was much appreciated - pure relaxation! Make sure to plan some time to enjoy the Ryokan itself next to exploring the art on the island
The apartment was very well-located (near Miyanoura port in Naoshima) and comfortable. We slept in a very pretty tatami room on futon. The check-in and check-out procedures were autonomous.
dinner and breakfast was incredible
staff were great and knowledgable
fantastic ryokan experience (not a hotel!)
private onsen was gorgeous
extremely stylish and luxurious
we absolutely adored this little gem of a property! it’s just the right size for a night or two on naoshima island and ideally located. it is opposite a play park which is perfect for families, a stones throw from the local Onsen, coffee shops and restaurants and very close to the port, which gives you bus access to most of the island. the place is so cute and was very clean. the futons were very comfortable. we would stay again!
Comfortable stay. I wasn't quite sure what to expect but the room had an ensuite bathroom. It's a tatami floor with a mattress and futon layered on top so very comfortable. Convenient for the Setouchi Triennele, close to everything to see in Honmura. Host is very kind and friendly.
