Located in Matsushima, 10 km from Shiogama Shrine, Matsushima Koumura features accommodation with a hot tub and a public bath. I visited this hotel in 2019 and came back now, in 2024, since I really liked it. It was up to my memory and expectations. The owners prepared breakfast for me and that was lovely.

Tokinenoyado Yunushi Ichijoh is situated in the Kamasaki Onsen district in Shiroishi, a 15-minute drive from Shiroishi Station and Shiroishi-Zao Station. This is a very special place. The staff are exceptionally kind and attentive, and the fact that we only speak English was handled effortlessly. We were picked up from the parking lot and received a warm and professional welcome. The food was excellent, with a wide and well-considered selection. The cake and birthday decorations we requested were prepared with great care and were much appreciated. The stay feels like a quiet step back in time. The baths are beautiful, the room was spacious and refined, and the historic building has a character that invites you to wander its corridors at ease.

Located right in front of Matsushima Bay, Komatsukan Kofu-tei offers accommodations with free wired internet access. This ryokan style hotel was one of our best experiences in Japan. The views over the islands of Matsushima were superb - truly one of the 3 great views of Japan! Our room overlooked the famous Fukuurabashi bridge through a picturesque screen of the twisted pine trees that make this view so iconic. The kaiseki style meals were superb - delicious and beautifully presented. Each dish was a delight of discovery, awe and wonder. We enjoyed a private onsen bath with sunset views and also visited each of the other public baths over the next day. The views over the bay are simply stunning.

Boasting mountain views, Sakunami Onsen Yuzukushi Salon Ichinobo features accommodation with an open-air bath, a garden and a terrace, around 27 km from Sendai City Community Support Center. Beautiful property. Wonderful staff. All very helpful and friendly. The public baths were wonderful. Outside baths were 2 different scenarios, one was gorgeous with five separate river rock soaking areas overlooking the river and forest, the other was 1 wooden tub in a small pavilion. Women have the beautiful spot afternoon/evening and swap with the men in the morning. Our room was very large and comfortable with a balcony and private soaking tub. The buffet style dinner and breakfast were delicious. Huge variety of freshly prepared foods. All you could eat and drink, beer, wine, various alcohol, sake, in the restaurant. The reception area had a piano, wood burning central fireplace to sit around. There were small tables with various board games, a library, snacks, beer and wine. Comfortable seating overlooking the hillside that was lit up at night. Very romantic spot to go for a special night.

Suzukiya Ryokan offers a hot spring bath and free private parking, and is within 49 km of Sendai City Community Support Center and 47 km of the Site of Sendai Castle. Onsen was high class, both inside and outside, Nice and hot too. Dinner and breakfast is a must, very nice traditional meal sets which was nicely presented with great service. Overall experience was so good we will ensure a return visit if it fits in with our travel route through our next trip to Japan. Lovely experience.

Situated in Sendai in the Miyagi region, Saryo Souen features accommodation with free WiFi and free private parking, as well as access to a hot spring bath. Great and I mean GREAT service. The staff were amazing, catering to every need. The place is quiet and very zen. It is perfect for those looking for peace and want to meditate. The onsen facilities are clean and heavenly. There was a private onsen in my room and I enjoyed it ALOT.

Set in Zao and only 38 km from Sendai City Community Support Center, かっぱの宿旅館三治郎 offers accommodation with mountain views, free WiFi and free private parking. The staff were all accommodating and the experienced felt very personalized. I could feel the traditional omotenashi service I rarely feel in ryokans in Tokyo nowadays.

竹泉荘 Chikusenso Onsen provides a hot spring bath and free private parking, and is within 42 km of Sendai City Community Support Center and 41 km of the Site of Sendai Castle. Breakfast and Dinner were excellent

Located in Sendai, TAOYA Akiu offers 4-star accommodation with an open-air bath. This ryokan provides free private parking and a 24-hour front desk. The ryokan has a hot spring bath and a lift. Taoya Akiu is, in short, fantastic. Location is 2min walking from the bus stop from/to Sendai, but to get there and from there they offer a free shuttle bus (require reservation, ideally now than one day before). The few attractions in the area are all reachable by walking. The resort is huge but services are distributed well and moving around is efficient. Basically everything is included in the price and offered as part of the staying: there are free drink -including alcoholic beverages- and snacks, you can choose your yukata among the different colours avaliable. There are multiple relaxing areas which are all nice and cozy, and there is even a shop inside. The onsen (baths) are gorgeous as you see in the pics. There are 4, two indoor and two outdoor that are assigned in pair to males and females, switching every day (this is standard for Onsen places) so you can try both even if you only stay one night. Check in and out are quick and staff is polite as always in Japan. Both dinner and breakfast are buffet style with quite a huge selection. The room is amazing, large for Japanese standards (and I mean really large) and beautiful with beds in a japense style section in the middle of the room. Super recommended.

Featuring 2-star accommodation, Tabist Business Ryokan Duck Ishinomaki Hebita is situated in Ishinomaki, 37 km from Shiogama Shrine and 49 km from Sendai City Community Support Center. Great value for money. The host was very welcoming and we had a really nice conversation via google translate that felt like we really connected with her.
