Just 250 metres from Zenko-ji Temple, Matsuya Ryokan offers simple Japanese rooms with tatami-mat floors, a green-tea maker and an attached Western bathroom. The hotel features public baths. This was one of the best accommodations in Japan, super clean, extremely good location, welcoming and traditional as it gets.

Set within less than 1 km of Matsumoto Station and 4.3 km of The Japan Ukiyo-e Museum, Nunoya Ryokan offers rooms with air conditioning and a private bathroom in Matsumoto. Everything about this property was great, the rooms, the private bathrooms, the beds, etc. the staff were an incredible part of the ryokan experience, very kind and helpful and took the time to speak to us not just about the ryokan house rules but also on a personal level. It was also the best night’s sleep i had throughout our Japan trip. Very comfortable indeed and will come again for sure!

Situated in Matsumoto, Mitsubikiya is a historic ryokan that features free WiFi, and guests can enjoy a garden and a terrace. This is a place to go for the incredible meals. The chef is passionate about quality Japanese cuisine. I recommend enjoying a meal there even if you don't stay in the hotel, which is quirky but clean and comfortable. You can also get a very hearty breakfast to start the day with. Wonderful hospitality.

Featuring mountain views, Futari Shizuka provides accommodation with an open-air bath, a garden and a bar, around 26 km from Takato Joshi Park. Amazing stay, offering a unique and traditional hospitality experience. The dinner, as well as the breakfast, is incredible with a lot of different tastes. The Onsen with outdoor areas is perfect to soak in after a long day.

Offering quiet street views, Residence Yasushi is an accommodation situated in Nozawa Onsen, 22 km from Ryuoo Ski Park and 33 km from Jigokudani Monkey Park. I can't say enough nice things about this place. The room (we had a suite) was surprisingly much larger than we expected. The beds were also a decent size and not the single size ones we're used to here in Japan. The staff was all super nice, friendly, and helpful. The whole establishment is just clean and very aesthetically pleasing which is very important to me. haha. The breakfast at this hotel is absolutely amazing!!! I think it is by far my favorite breakfast of all the hotels I've been at (and we have done a ton of traveling in Japan). Usually we get buffets in other hotels and there are many many options of dishes but kind of quality is average. But here you get a freshly made dish and every morning we had a different menu. I LOVED EVERY. SINGLE. DISH!!! They also had buffet style continental items. The Cheese and Chives Scones was to die for!!! I wish I could have taken some home!! LOL Also, in a small town where space is limited, it was so nice that there was parking available for our car. Lastly, the location is perfect!! walking distance to the Main Street and restaurants and the Yu Road escalator. But they also have a hotel Shuttle which will drop you off at the Gondola. Highly recommend staying here to anyone. It checked all my boxes!! We will definitely be back!!!

Takimi Onsen Inn that only accepts one group per day features a hot spring bath and free private parking, and is within 9.1 km of Otsumago and 9.3 km of Kotoku-ji Temple. Truly one of the highlights of our time in Japan. The building, rooms, and onsen are incredible and the hospitality can't be beat. We were caught in a rainstorm before our scheduled pickup and the owners so kindly dried our sopping wet clothes and shoes. After that, we warmed up in the onsen which left our skin feeling so smooth and headed to a delicious and expansive dinner. We finished the night falling asleep to the roaring sound of the waterfall due to the heavy rains. We'll definitely be back.

Located in the heart of Nozawa Onsen, Tanuki offers guests a traditional accommodation with Japanese-style rooms that feature tatami (woven-straw) flooring. Really comfortable and soft bed which is a rare find for Japanese hotels, very new and clean furniture

Offering an open-air bath and mountain view, Ryokan Warabino is set in Takayama, 12 km from Suzaka City Zoo and 24 km from Zenkoji Temple. The staffs are very nice and very helpful, we had dinner within the hotel, the food is great, our family really enjoy the stay.
