Excellent location, particularly if you’re keen to attend the sunrise service at the temple. Plenty of space in the room. Terrific meals; the food and the cheerful hospitality of the dining room & kitchen staff in particular are worth the splurge.

Nunoya Ryokan is in a beautiful old japanese house - with a great atmosphere and very friendly staff and a lovely small lounge, in a typical Matsumoto street. We had a beautiful tatami room and slept on futons, it was quiet and comfortable, and breakfast was very good, with choices for lovers of japanese or western breakfast. Loved it.

Featuring mountain views, Futari Shizuka provides accommodation with an open-air bath, a garden and a bar, around 26 km from Takato Joshi Park. We loved everything about our stay. The staff were amazing and we loved the little visit from The manager during dinner letting us know about the weather for the next day, it was very thoughtful. The meals they provided were delicious and very filling. One of the staff even polished our shoes. They truly go the extra mile. Incredible. We would highly recommend this place to stay and we would love to come back here.

Takimi Onsen Inn that only accepts one group per day features a hot spring bath and free private parking, and is within 9.1 km of Otsumago and 9.3 km of Kotoku-ji Temple. Truly one of the highlights of our time in Japan. The building, rooms, and onsen are incredible and the hospitality can't be beat. We were caught in a rainstorm before our scheduled pickup and the owners so kindly dried our sopping wet clothes and shoes. After that, we warmed up in the onsen which left our skin feeling so smooth and headed to a delicious and expansive dinner. We finished the night falling asleep to the roaring sound of the waterfall due to the heavy rains. We'll definitely be back.
