Biwako Hanakaido features outdoor and indoor hot-spring baths, 3 dining options and rooms with a balcony and Lake Biwako views. It also has a garden and a sauna, while the lobby offers free WiFi. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and it easy to communicate with them. The ladies that presented the food at dinner were exceptional, explaining each dish in detail, and even assisted in frying the meats perfectly. An overall amazing experience

Biwako Ryokusuitei offers Japanese-style/Western rooms with Lake Biwako views, a flat-screen TV and free Wi-Fi. Dinner was amazing and the staff and service was so attentive. Anzono our waiter for our dinner service went above and beyond. When one of us had to leave dinner before dessert to make their massage appointment, he offered and prepared a plate of the full dessert on a tray to be taken to the room for enjoyment afterwards.

Situated in Otsu, 16 km from Enryaku-ji Temple, Yumotokan offers accommodation with a hot spring bath, a hot tub and spa facilities. The staff were super friendly, service minded, and fairly comfortable with English. We had a room with our own outdoor bath which was amazing, and the room as a whole was spacious, clean, and filled with amenities. All the food was great. Overall had an amazing stay and me and me wife really felt like we were taken care of and spoiled.

Set in Takashima in the Shiga region, Marumo Ryokan offers accommodation with free private parking, as well as access to a public bath. A lovely experience. Friendly welcome, very helpful from the owner and his son. Room was large, comfortable, relaxing and very clean. We stayed half board for two nights and the food was magnificent. Nice baths. Went hiking in the hills one day, superb and took the ferry to the island the next and from there to Nagahama. Great trip.

Boasting a hot spring bath, Dantokan Kikunoya is located a 5-minute drive from JR Ogoto Onsen Station. Free pick-up from the station is available upon advance request. The staff here are incredible. They went above and beyond to help us celebrate our honeymoon. I was so grateful for how hard they all worked and how kind they all were. We also got the breakfast service in our room, which was excellent, and they provided several drinks in the fridge for us for free. They shuttled us from the station and back to it, and we were even sent off by the staff at the end of our stay. So friendly and welcoming. Also, our deluxe suite had the private open air bath, and I can't recommend that enough. It was so relaxing and incredible. Lastly, I personally loved the toiletries and additional things that came with the room (shampoo, straightener, beverages, yukata, pajamas, etc.)

Situated just 26 km from Hikone Castle, Ryokan Beniayu features accommodation in Nagahama with access to an open-air bath, free bikes, as well as a lift. The staff were very friendly, and the facilities were clean, which made my stay very pleasant.

長浜城下 町屋ホテル 和乃リトリートひといき features a sauna and free private parking, and is within 14 km of Hikone Castle and 8.6 km of Maibara Station. Loved the staff and the property - Shimpei and staff was superb, thoughtful, responsive, and just lovely. We learned so much about Lake Biwa’s local culture in such a short time thanks to Shimpei and Riyona (the resident artist)! We also loved the sauna and our room. Super cozy and also airy at the same time. Central location from train station (perfect walking distance), but quiet at the same time! Beautiful traditional neighbourhood. We also appreciated the property’s curation of local products such as the bancha tea sampler and sweet potato mochi. These little gestures/sharings really made an impression on us.

KAMENOI HOTEL Hikone provides a hot spring bath and free private parking, and is within 2.7 km of Hikone Castle and 6 km of Maibara Station. Amazing food, pleasant staff and great onsen. Frequent shuttles to and from train station was a plus.

Located in Hikone, less than 1 km from Hikone Castle, Honmachi Juku has a garden, private parking and rooms with free WiFi access. The 2-star ryokan is 7.2 km from Maibara Station. Very cosy and welcoming. The area is very nice with the temple just beside it and a small garden. The ryokan is beautiful. The owners are very friendly people.

Located in Hikone, near Hikone Castle, Kiyotaki Ryokan is a historic ryokan that features a garden. The property is non-smoking and is set 8 km from Taga-taisha Shrine. Very kind host, good breakfast.
