A ryokan which still upholds the tradition of Japanese hospitality. Even I booked only a single room, I was surprised to find my tatami room so spacious with balcony opens to a beautiful koi pond. I was treated with a famous local biscuit as welcome gift. The breakfast was the tastiest and most eye-pleasing meal I had in my entire 2 weeks-trip. The clam soup was so fresh. The host helped to call the previous hotel I stayed because I left my adaptor & mobile charger there. He was kind to also let me use his charger that night. The room was warm in chilly autumn night and I had a good sleep after soaking in hot bath. It was rainy when I arrived and left the ryokan but because of the hospitality I received, I wished I could have stayed there for another night or 2.

The silence and the calm was what we enjoyed the most. It was worth the price and would like to ho again if we had a chance again.

We had a pretty small room, but the view is amazing! Seeing the sunrise / sunset into the horizon is a great experience! The half-board dinner is also exceptional! Not sure if it differs day-to-day, but ours was a 5-course meal, and we were already full from the first course!! The onsen experience is impeccable as well, as we can relax in the hot water while facing the calm seas. Really recommend this place!

I was served dinner and breakfast in the room that had a huge variety of local cuisine and seasonal specialities.

In this ever changing, chaotic and even crazy world, I admire a well-run family business (small or large) which passes on from generation to generation, like the Tanakaya (since 1911). My wife and I have one of the five larger rooms with superb views of the Japanese garden with architectural and water features (charming with the new snow cover). The included Kaiseki dinner (delicious, sumptuous, but not too elaborate or overly filling) and breakfast are served not in our room but in a separate and private dinner room, which we like. The clear-water onsen is not huge and indoor only, but has full glass panels facing a small bamboo grove in the garden. Old-fashioned warm and attentive service attitudes prevailed. A mature lady of the 4th generation greeted us when we arrived, another of the 5th generation briefed us, and a third lady was assigned to take us to our room, serve us dinner and breakfast and prepare our beddings. All three of them waited for us when we checked out, and followed our small shuttle bus as it drove out to the parking lot and onto the road to wave us goodbye despite the snow and cold weather. We saw members of the 6th generation chatting and playing in the lounge just before dinner the evening before, while we were viewing the manuscripts and books of a poet (also a member of the family) in a display room near the reception, I wish the traditions of excellence and service of this small ryokan (and many others) will continue to be passed on to the next generations.

A soli 3 minuti a piedi dalla stazione ferroviaria di Unazuki Onsen.Il Kurobe Unazukionsen Yamanoha offre sistemazioni in stile giapponese e occidentale con TV a schermo piatto. Staff was wonderful, polite. Even one young man who was originally from Taiwan could speak some English and was very helpful. The food was excellent and plenty of variety. Plan to return.

This lovely out of the way place nestled in the mountains was the perfect get away from the madness that can be the big cities. The staff are friendly and warm. The food was excellent. The room was spacious and extremely comfortable. Would highly recommend.
