Berunes is a historic, family-run farm by the Ring Road, 35 km from Djúpivogur, quietly set on a fjord between mountains and sea. Guests have access to a fully equipped kitchen, and lounges. We did the ring road while driving in Iceland and we booked seven places where we stayed. Out of these 7 places I have to say that Berunes was by far the best one. It was an amazing experience and the host is super friendly and helpful. But the reason why we liked Berunes the most was because it was a step back in time. The house where we stayed was built in the 1900s and the furniture is rustic but there are all the facilities needed. We are a family of four and we had two separate rooms and a private bathroom. Just next to the house there is a small church and also a restaurant. The restaurant was closed at the time of our visit, in April, but they will open it in summer. The landscape surrounding the hostel is also amazing. There is a lake in front of the house and the mountain at the back. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to relax and spend some enjoyable time in the middle of nature.

The upstairs has a couch that you could sleep on but no dark out curtains and the kitchen we cooked in. Downstairs has two twin beds and full bed. The bathroom has a washer: dryer combo. This was our mid trip laundry stop. The town is cute and walkable.

We wanted for nothing during our visit, and Helga and her husband were the perfect hosts, making sure we had everything we needed and helping us navigate the weather disruption and travel situation.
