Beautiful traditional house with a family room downstairs. Cosy & located on a nostalgic quiet street. Walking distance to the river and the attractions to the town. Host, Mr Masa was most kind and helpful.

Reopened after renovation in 2022, Auberge Hidanomori is situated in quiet hills, a 10-minute shuttle ride from JR Takayama Station. Auberge is a beautifully designed, minimalist small family run hotel. The rooms are a great size, comfortable and the bathrooms have lovely hot water onsen baths! What sets this place apart is the amazing food you can have for dinner and breakfast. It’s the best feeling coming down the stairs to eat in their lovely dining space, experience the most amazing food and wine pairings of your life and then easily walk upstairs to bed. Thank you for an amazing stay, we will definitely be back and recommend to all our friends.

Absolutely beautiful historic building with incredible views out onto the river and architecture of Hida. Our private bath and room were gorgeous and luxurious. Beds were very comfortable. The dinner and breakfast were phenomenal traditional experiences. The staff gifted us both with beautiful chopsticks for our honeymoon. Wonderful location- just steps to the historic streets of Hida and only a short walk from the station. If you are looking for a wonderful blend of the traditional ryokan experience with some modern luxuries thrown in, this is the place.

Location, private onsen in the suite, kaiseki dinner is elegant and delicious, so is the delicious breakfast, both served in our room, it’s a great experience. The staffs are very warm and helpful. It gave free entrance ticket to the big public onsen which is a great extra benefit.

Nature and the mountains around the town was astonishing
