We absolutely love the atmosphere of this place. The old wood panel walls and the giant logs that make up the frame in the lobby, have a rustic charm that leaves us relaxed and feeling like we’re somewhere overseas. I’m not a huge fan of jazz, but I love the sound of it in the lobby coming through through the old warm speakers near the fireplace. The food is another plus about this place. I’m not a huge fan of super fancy and pretentious food. What they serve here is good and substantial so you’re not left craving something else in 20 minutes. for dinner we actually got lunch items. We probably could have gotten away with ordering two lunch entrées for the three of us because they’re that filling. The buffet breakfast was fantastic. Unlike the buffet at a business hotel where you’re looking for something that’s the least unappealing to eat, for this buffet there were so many things that looked so good that it was a challenge not to overheat actually we skip lunch this afternoon because we ate so much at breakfast today.

Comfortable stay, attentive and patient staff who anticipated and attended to our every need and request. Food was excellent and they accommodated my dietary restrictions and remembered them throughout my stay. Wonderful stay, highly recommend.

If only I could rate the hotel more than a 5 star, I will. 1. The owner/host both are so accommodating, helpful and is super kind. I experiences the real Japan omotenashi (hospitality) thru them. Especially the lady owner, she goes a long way to make your stay comfortable and as convenient as it is. She even help call a reservatuon for taxi. 2. The accommodation feels homey. Clean, comfortable and spacious. I slept in a Japanese style room that has futon and Kotatsu. The kotatsu is so comfortable that you dont want to get off them. The Heating is also excellent so the room is warm. 3. The room is equipped with air cleaner, fridge, tv & there is also available himidifier that you can use if needed. Basic amenities are provided too and a yukata. There is a common toilet on the second floor and so as the basement. Microwave is also available for use if you warm your food and the owner can lend you plates and utensils. 4. The nearest onsen is 3 minutes by foot and the owner will give you the 100¥ coupon discount if you use the nearest day onsen spa. 5. The location is perfect just a minute walk to the main ropeway station that’ll take you to the snow monster. 5 minutes walk to the convenience store, 7 minutes walk to the bus terminal and has few good restaurants around. 6. The breakfast is also delicious and hearty. The hotel has big dry room for your ski/snowboard gears and cheaper ski lift tickets if you buy from the hotel. I highly recommend this place and I will definitely come back again next winter season.

Hide and his staff were very welcoming. They gave us a tour of the house and invited us to their family meal (donation based). This meal was by far the best meal we've had in Japan, home cooked, healthy and extremely homey and comforting. If home cooked meals aren't your thing then the house is also stocked with snacks and quick food you can heat/warm up for a reasonable price. We really enjoyed family meal, it gave us an opportunity to meet the other guests and chat with Hide about his recipes. Thank you for everything! We hope to be back again soon!

Hanya 1 menit berjalan kaki dari Resor Ski Zao Onsen, Zao Kokusai Hotel menawarkan pemandian air panas indoor/outdoor yang luas dan kamar-kamar bergaya Jepang. The location was absolutely breathtaking, we visited in autumn but I'm already planning my next visit for winter! The staff were so lovely and accommodating, not everyone spoke perfect english but they make a genuine effort to make us feel welcome none the less. I loved the onsen, we used the private and public facilities and found them so relaxing. We ate in the restaurant every morning and once for dinner, the food was so well done and we loved getting a taste of the local cuisine. Seriously 10/10 its not the cheapest stay but it is worth the price.

We loved our stay with Massa and his family. We enjoyed a comfortable stay here - we felt incredibly welcome with such wonderful, hard working and incredibly helpful hospitality from the hosts at this family run hotel. Momo, the shiba dog, was a massive hit with us - super friendly and we even took her for a walk! The ski resort is a 5 minute drive away - we parked in the Rental Naja car park for 1000 yen a day. This made it easier to access the slopes. We ate several times at the hotel - home cooked curry and amazing sushi. The breakfasts were varied and great. Free parking too which was helpful. Shared facilities were no issue…lots of sinks, good system for bathing. Would 100% return!
