I spent 2 nights before my jungle trek and 1 night after. I booked the 2 day/1 night jungle trek with them as well. I actually think that is the only way you can stay at their guesthouse, so they ensure that their trekking clients have accommodation. Communication with the manager, Dedycool was faultless, from the time i made my initial inquiry to when the driver picked me up at the airport. The room was spotless, the bed and pillows were some of the most comfortable I've had in 5 months of travel, and the AC did the job. The staff could not have been more welcoming, both upon arrival and every time I came for a meal or returned from an outing. The location outside of the village ensured a peaceful nights sleep. I enjoyed the 30 minute walk to the center, allowing me to see people going about their daily lives. The jungle trek was phenomenal in every way. Both guides, Edwin and Janet, were professional and got excited when we saw orangutans (we saw 7). The food both at the guesthouse and on the trek was very tasty. The trekking was challenging but not overly so. It was fun scrambling up hillsides using vines and roots as foot and hand holds. The camping was much more comfortable than I expected. The camping mats were thick, and the lightweight sleeping bag was just right for the temperature. The rafting back to the village was super fun and a great way to end the 2 days in the jungle. I'm very pleased with my decision to book through Sumatra Orangutans Treks.

My family and I had the pleasure of staying in this beautiful, newly built villa as the first guests. The house is very bright, lovely decorated and very spacious. It's situated directly on the stunning white sand beach with a wonderful view of the turquoise ocean and nearby little islands. It has two bedrooms, well well-equipped kitchen and large living areas. We were warmly welcomed by a manager at the harbour. All the transportation, boat trips to the islands and the car rental were also easily arranged for us by the owner. The villa is situated in the heart of the main village, so you have easy access to the shops and local warnings. You can watch the fishermen in the morning and easily blend with the local people who are always incredibly friendly.

We wanted somewhere different to spend Christmas and came across Valhalla house online, the house was as amazing as it looks in the pictures and was right on the beach that you have to yourself! The house was clean & comfortable and had everything we needed - water, towels, cooking facilities etc! As the island was quite remote we were struggling to find how to get there and get around but Marcelo, the host, went above and beyond to help us out with flights and ferries. His communication was great, and he gave us some great food recommendations as well as a contact for surf lessons, which we all really enjoyed on Christmas day, and was just so helpful with all of the questions we had! Marcelo also put us in touch with a local, Dolman, who drove us to and from the airport, even though the roads were bad he made it so easy for us to get around by providing bikes at a really good price. Overall we had an amazing stay at Valhalla and would recommend it to anyone who wants a relaxing time on a paradise island, surrounded by local culture, beautiful beaches and lots surfing!!

Do not hesitate to book! The house is very clean also. We had a great time here!

Getting to this wonderful place is an adventure in itself. 15’ on a motor and a 20-30’ hike, but that will bring you to a home that settles itself in your heart (Don’t worry porters will be arranged for luggage and you will be guided – Connect on WhatsApp!). The family run hotel was constructed making use of the rocks from the river that curves around it and the wood from the jungle that surrounds it. You feel lost in nature. It has three upstairs rooms ideal for a family and a room downstairs. You’re family. The aunties cook local dishes (surprise menu – delicious banana-tree soup) and harvest from the garden. We planted a tree from the nursery. Cikita is a friendly host to help you. Baik is a senior guide with excellent English to help arrange trekking. The cook also gives a very professional massage. What can we say? Wifi and electricity may be spotty and there is no hamburger. But this place is so unique! Remote, so if you don’t want that, this is not for you. But if you look for a place to remember disconnected from everything. This is it.

Big open spaces to enjoy as a family, and very nice and clean rooms to enjoy quiet times. The patio is charming.

Beautiful house, with 4bedrooms..very clean..the owner very friendly and easy to communicate..she even help us to buy medicine for my kids..i strongly recommend to others..

We loved everything about this homestay. Asniar is so extremely accommodating and looked after everything from airport pickup to our jungle trek (at such a great price!). The guide Dolak was fantastic and Oleb and Emer who work at the property are so patient and kind always playing with our 4 year old and cooking us the most delicious food. The homestay is comfortable and spacious with two beds, a basic kitchen + utensils (no fridge but you could ask to use the communal fridge), many fans, WiFi, and delicious breakfast (with options) included. There is no hot water but this is welcomed as it can be hot during the day. Dinner and lunch options are also available for a great (additional) price. Some delicious options with plenty of vegetarian friendly dishes also. There is also access to washing machine so you can clean clothes post hike. This is so helpful for families! It's about a 25min walk to the main Bukit Lawang town but the walk is fabulous; straight up the canal and through the village where we got to meet many friendly families. You can also arrange a tuktuk, the driver Asniar uses (Harry) is such a gentleman, for a great price. The homestay is also close to warungs, Indomart and Alfamart, the bus station, and a local market (around 10mins walk) so you have the best of both worlds. The location is very peaceful, the pond was fun as our little one could fish, the garden is beautiful and we personally enjoy the roaming cats who pop by for a cuddle (if you're into that). Overall we cannot fault our week long stay here. Especially as a family with a little one! We would highly recommend and will absolutely come to stay here again when we return to Bukit. Thank you to everyone who made our stay unforgettable. It was hard to leave!
