I had expected more like a very touristic and overrated place, but the room and the ice sculptures and the whole ice hotel was very-very impressive and almost magical! The stuff was very helpful during my whole stay, and the equipment (sleeping bag, balaclava, wollen socks) worked very well. The sauna is a highlight after a night in the cold, and the shower and bath room are very clean and nice. The breakfast was way better than at any other places in Norway with a large selection of delicious food and drink. I totally recommend to visit the hotel during the summer time, then you probably can have the whole place just for you or maybe with a couple of other guests.

There was a very pleasant receptionist who helped us a lot. We didn’t check all the facilities but it was a nice surprise to hear that they even have a swimming pool there. Also I’d like to mention a good and quiet breakfast in the Scandic restaurant. The location of hotel is perfect too - it’s right in the centre of the town I’d say so we have some time to walk around.

Overlooking the Varangerfjord, the eco-friendly Ekkerøy Holidayhouse is located on Ekkerøy Peninsula. Lovely property near the Kittiwake colony and situated perfectly between all the great birding areas in Varanger - it's just a short drive to the airport, Vadsø, Vardø, and Kiberg. We had the eagle house and it was absolutely amazing with views from the living room over the Kittiwakes and the ocean. There is free parking and a great hiking path just behind the house. The house is very well equipped and perfect for cooking meals, making coffee, laundry, etc. Beds are comfy, the curtains are blackout for long summer nights and the area is so quiet (except for the birds of course, but it's wonderful to hear them all day!) The host was incredibly friendly and provided us with lots of great advice about the area. Highly recommend staying here, it's one of our favorite stays of all time!
