The hotel manager was exceptional. She was super welcoming and very attentive. She helped us find a last minute restaurant reservation on a busy Saturday night.
The extérieur pool was great and the water was warm (heated at 82 F).
And we did appreciate the spa ( sauna , hamman)

Great location, very close to the chateau. Super friendly host who welcomed us at the door. Very roomy and a lot of facilities. Super comfortable stay. The host even gave us more buffer for visiting the chateau. How lovely 😍 Surely will come back next time.

The castle was so personal ,we could have moved in !
The castle was so personal ,we could have moved in ! The light coloured stone as apposed to grey in Normandy. Trying to have a meal was very difficult, sometimes the pizza place was open ,same with the bakery, " exceptional closing " . Staff issues still cause problems due to Covid . We would return as it's so pretty, just not in a heat wave !!

We had never heard of the chateau of Montreuil Bellay as one...
We had never heard of the chateau of Montreuil Bellay as one of the Loire Valley chateaux, but on several previous trips between the ferry at St Malo to our home in the Dordogne we had noticed how temptingly impressive it looks from the road that bypasses the town. So this trip decided to have a stopover to explore. The chateau is absolutely stunning; no idea why it isn't better known. The dramatic position high above the river Thouet gives wonderful views. The town itself is pretty but unassuming, with a few impressive buildings (not open to the public). It's small, with quiet streets, easy walking except for the climb up from the river. We struggled to find a decent restaurant, eventually getting an acceptable meal in a creperie. I suppose the fact that the chateau is not really on the tourist agenda means that the town doesn't cater for tourists, especially on Tuesdays! Well worth a visit though.

We are cycling in a heatwave so the pool felt wonderful. The room was fairly cool, clean and the bed super comfy. The town itself was beautiful with an impressive castle, but most of the restaurants were closed including the one Nathalie recommended. However we found the hotel Splendid which was open and served a delicious 3 course supper in the courtyard. It’s a great base to explore the town.

We had a relaxing week, popped out for amazing dinners and walks and everything you need (patisserie, supermarket, charcuterie, pharmacy) were on the doorstep. I highly recommend Maison Aubelle for families, couples, singles whether you're activity minded or just want a relaxing dose of French life.

Very warmly welcomed on our arrival and our hosts were delightful. The room was spacious and so pretty and had all we needed. Excellent restaurant recommendation. Very easy stop off for our trip south. Lots of private parking.

Having a drink on the patio in the evening light overlooking the adjacent historic buildings was very pleasant. The Breakfast was ok and there was on-site, free parking.
