Getting around Tours on foot from the hotel was very easy and I walked to all the attractions and enjoyed the vibe of Tours very much. I stayed in Tours as a hub for my desire to see the chateaux and vineyards and felt it was perfect for that. I could have done so by train, but chose a tour company Loire Valley Tours and booked them for three different day tours---the best decision for me to see all I wanted to. My last day in Tours I was on my own and even though it was raining, I enjoyed walking through the Old Town, the wonderful art museum and the gardens. Since the wine tastings and delicious lunches were included in the tours, and I had huge breakfsts at the hotel, I often just ate simply in my room for my evening meal.
A good centre from which to easily explore some of the Loire chateaux. The city of Tours also had its own interesting areas to wander round. We particularly liked the cathedral with the flowers, banners and the magnificent stained glass windows. It was special to see that effort had been put in to celebrating the significant anniversary of St Martin. We enjoyed eating in the student areas where to food was tasty and good value and the staff friendly and welcoming.
There are lots of things to see in Tours...from the Cathedral St. Gatien to museums and medieval buildings. It's a good place to walk around and the new tram is a wonderful opportunity to take a look around in comfort.
Interesting old town section, with lots of excellent restaurants and stores with a wide variety of goods. Beautifully decorated for the Christmas holidays. Loved Les Halles food market. Also tram system is a real plus for getting around.
