The guest house was a wonderful gem in the middle of Rantepao, conveniently located near all the Tana Toraja points of interest. I had a traditional Torajan home all to myself and it felt so special. The place was extremely clean, had all I needed. It is part of a typical Torajan family's compound. Aldi, the host went out of his way to help and assist me with everything. He even waited for us until late at night (and I felt horrible about it, because it was like 1.30 AM when I arrived), as I was driving from Makasar and arrived later than expected. He organized a 2 day tour with Mr. Ino (also recommended), who showed me around the main sights at VERY reasonable cost. The place was spotless, comfortable, and felt like I was in a documentary. Absolutely recommended. As for Tana Toraja.... it is a unique corner of our world. Make sure you spend at least 2 days there to see everything. Ask for Ino's services.

Set in Bira in the South Sulawesi region, Tevana House Reef offers accommodation with free private parking. My second time staying at Tevana. It's a stunning spot and such a welcoming, well designed experience. The restaurant menu is diverse and always good, the staff work hard and have a great sense of humour. I particularly like the fact that these guys care about the problem of plastic waste and put water dispensers in each bungalow. Will hopefully have to come here for work again!

Built in traditional Torajan style, Rura Raya Homestay is situated in Rantepao. The rooms here offers modern comforts and while maintaining the traditional decor. Me and my friend had a wonderful time in Toraja, and staying at Rura Raya was the best choice! The owner Manaek is a lovely and warm person ready to help with anything you might need, and she is an amazing cook-literally the best food we had in Indonesia! The room is clean and has a beautiful view of traditional Torajan houses. Highly recommended!!!

Featuring an indoor swimming pool, spa and fitness centre, Aston Makassar Hotel offers comfort at the end of a long day. Beautifull hotel. Great room, clean, comfortable, luxurious. The food is delicious. Staff is very friendly and helpfull.

On the map, Bira looks relatively "close" to Makassar, and most reviews say that it is a popular weekend destination. But don't be fooled by the map, it is rather a day-trip of about 6 hours to get from Makassar to Bira. But this is certainly worth it, once you have seen the beautiful white beach and the amazing colour of the water! All taken into account, we would recommend to stay at least 3 nights or more to be able to enjoy this fully. The Bara Beach Bungalows are located almost at the end of the beach, in a nice sloping garden. The restaurant and reception is near the beach terrace and serves excellent food! We had many nice meals here and were not disappointed. We especially liked the water refill station (hot and cold water for free), this helps to reduce the plastic waste! Breakfast is sometimes served as a buffet if there are many guests, but on most days we got to select from the breakfast menu options (special requests were never a problem). Staff is very friendly and speaks good English, on most days you will also be able to meet the manager who appears to be a native speaker in both Indonesian and English and who gave us lots of nice advice for trips around the area. We definitely recommend to do a snorkeling trip by boat to the small island opposite the beach, there is a really beautiful coral reef garden with lots of different fish to be explored! You can walk along the beach during low tide to get to the other resorts, especially the partner location Akasha Beach Club is worth a visit for sunset! But keep the tide times in mind to safely get back and bring a torch or headlight (there is a road as well, just in case). Would stay here again any time if we are in the area!

Toraja Misiliana Hotel is located at the centre of Toraja, 2 km from Rantepao Town. Facing Sa’dan River, it offers an outdoor pool, 2 dining options and free parking on site. Breakfast was great, grounds spotless, pool perfect. Staff super nice.
