Blue Almond Hostel

Juan, the owner, is one of the nicest and most helpful hostel workers I've ever experienced. He was willing to give me step-by-step directions for everything I needed and was really friendly the whole time. The rooms are clean and have comfortable beds. The kitchen is nice and big so you don't have to worry about being too crowded. The location is nice. It's not in the main city center, so it doesn't feel touristy, you get more of a local feel while being there. However, the bus stop is like a one minute walk and the bus will take you anywhere you need to go. Or you can always walk and it doesn't take too long to get anywhere.

They aren't kidding about the water pressure... But since that's my only complaint, I'd say this hostel was awesome

Blue Almond Hostel is the first and oldest Hostel on the Island. I had a great stay here, owners are the most amazing and warm people, they also help you with all tourist information of the Archipelago, diving and surfing info,... Safe neighbourhood, sure, it's a small walk to the center, but San Andres is a tiny island so distances are relative.

The owners - Juan and Jeniffer - are a superfriendly and sociable couple. We enjoyed their company very much. The hostel is small with 3 rooms and a big living/dining room. We really felt at home here in a relaxed atmosphere. Good location: The hostel is placed just outside the concrete-hell of the touristy main city. But you can still walk there in a few minutes. Big TV, nice movie-collection and good internet.

No air-conditioning - but that is why it is the cheapest option. Plenty of fans though, which was sufficient.

Just a fantastic hostel - seemingly inhabited by a constant stream of awesome people, and the owner and his girlfriend are incredibly nice. We went out together, guests and owner and all, several times!

I suppose the facilities are on the basic side, but so's the price!

Small hostel located in the residential neighbourhood called "los Almendros" only a 15 minute walk to downtown and 20 mins to the main beach. The walk to downtown felt very safe as is illuminated all the way. Hosts: Juan & Jenniffer are highly educated people, they both have careers and master degrees from European universities, they told me they run the hostel as a hobby an as personal project they have had for some time. They both have jobs. Juan works with tourism and computers and Jenn works for the government in social programs. Very interesting people to talk to. Area: Small neighborhood, right in front of the hostel there's military housing, so there's always 2 army guys around. There's a convenience store located 2 minutes away. About the Hostel: free Wifi, snorkel rental 5.000 the whole day!, bikes (25.000 the whole day!) and decently priced tours (from Juan's other company), giant kitchen, small backyard with chairs (wifi works better there), DVD player and a gazillion movies, one PC for guest, 2 shared bathrooms that are deeply cleaned every other day by a super nice lady named Martha (make sure you give her a tip, she deserves it) Also, make sure you read the email the hostel sends you as there's a lot of useful info there, send them your flight info so they can wait for you at the hostel. No curfew: you get 2 keys and come and go as you please.

No microwave: Juan told me he hates microwaves. Water pressure is low: They explained the way it works and it only makes sense that they don't get good water pressure, is like that in the whole island. Taxi drivers: on the welcome email the hostel sends you they leave no detail out as how to get to the hostel, however taxi drivers appear to have hidden agendas and take you wherever they want in order to make commission. Make sure you tell the cabdriver the exact same thing the hostel sends you to your email. Fellow travellers: If you are a high maintenace traveller I would advice you to stay somewhere else, when i was staying there was a Brazilian couple that couldn't bear the fact that there was no 24 hour front desk. Juan and Jenniffer come 3 times a day morning, noon and at night.

I possibly broke the all-time record with a 7 weeks stay and can only say positive things about the hostel, I think that speaks for its own!

Everything was great there. You feel like at home, you can cook, watch TV in a living room, and it's peaceful. You don't have problems to sleep. It's clean and beautiful. We will go back to this Hostel.

It's 20 min walking from touristic centre. If you don't want to walk, this is not a good place for you.

Chevere, bonito, aseado, cómodo. Buenos administradores... Nos gusto bastante si volvemos a la isla seguro volvemos allí. Buena información de planes para realizar. Recomendado!

Tal vez la presión del agua sea normal en la isla pues es muy suave al bañarse.

La ubicación y hospitalidad.

Los cuartos son un poco ajustados. Pero las áreas comunes son muy amplias. En general es muy buen hostel

La atención de sus dueños (Juan y Jenifer) fue excelente y también sus recomendaciones. El hostel es agradable y muy limpio.

El unico punto negativo es que quizás luego de varios días las 12 cuadras que queda el hostel a las playas del centro, los resto y bares se empiezan a hacer un poco largas.

La cocina esta muy buena. Muy buena Predisposicion de los dueños y encargados. la ubicacion es interesante.

las camas compartidas son muy chicas. Los baños no tienen muy buena presion de agua. sale muy poca.

Que aunque todos somos extraños por ser tan pequeño lo hacemos muy familiar

La amabilidad con la nos trataron Jenni y Juan. Siempre atentos a ver como la estabamos pasando, si necesitabamos algo estaban dispuestos a colaborarnos en todo. Nos recomendaron actividades, lugares para visitar o para comer o tomar algo, seguimos sus consejos y siempre acertaron. La pasamos muy bien. Definitivamente un lugar tranquilo para disfrutar y pasarla bien.

hemos pasado una semana increible en blue almond hostel! los dueños son super amigables y anfitriones... nos recomendaron muchas cosas para hacer y nos aconsejaron mucho, y con mucha predisposicion... son muy amables! me senti como en mi casa! y creo que no hay nada mejor que estar lejos de casa, pero aun asi sentirte tan comodo como en ella... Gracias Juan y Jenny!
