Casa Elvira belongs to our family business "Apartamentos La Fuente". Founded in 1988 from German owner Thomas Schmid, over the years we have saved several empty Canarian houses in the upper town of Santa Cruz from decay and with a lot of enthusiasm and love we have converted them into holiday accommodation. They are all legalized and listed at the local tourist board. We ourselves live just around the corner and are happy to have contributed a little bit to the preservation of this wonderful historic quarter. Elvira, the previous owner of the cottage, moved away years ago for reasons of age, but has always enjoyed knowing that her house continues to be lived in and appreciated. Having lived on La Palma for decades and being passionate walkers ourselves we can easily say that we know the island very well and are happy to share this knowledge with you when it gets to plan your stay and organize your excursions.

Casa Elvira is located in the upper town of Santa Cruz, in the so-called Barrio de la Canela, a quiet residential area. The old cobblestone streets, winding alleys and traditional Canarian houses make up the typical flair of the quarter. After a short but steep ascent (from Plaza España approx. 5 min/ 400m on foot) you will be rewarded by the roof terrace with a wonderful view over the city, the harbour and the sea. On a clear day you can see Tenerife and La Gomera on the horizon. Located at the end of a small pedestrian alley (approx. 20m), it is not possible to park your car directly in front of the house, but there are free public parking facilities nearby. Additionally we offer our own private parking, a couple of minutes away, which we are happy to share with you and our other guests.

Neighborhood info

The Barrio de la Canela is one of the oldest in the city, being located on the main path connecting the east and the west of the island. Now a hiking trail, in the past goods were transported by donkey, mule and even camel from the port of Santa Cruz to the other side of the island. In the small chapel of San Sebastian people prayed for protection on their way. At the Plaza de Dornajos the animals were watered one last time. Unfortunately, there are not many of the once numerous craftsmen, small shops and bakeries left to which the "cinnamon district" owes its name. However, the neighbours still know each other, they greet each other, like to have a chat and exchange news from window to window. There is still a small supermarket nearby and otherwise you can be in the hustle and bustle of the pedestrian zone, the market hall and on the beach in 5 minutes on foot.
