The historical, charming and laid-back town of Oviedo is located in the Asturias region. It is home to an array of landmarks with a mix of Baroque, Romenesque, Renaissance and Gothic architecture, some dating back to between the 9th - 16th centuries.

Nice town with good infrastructure. Safe and quiet. With lots of restaurants and a fairly large pedestrian centre. The city is built for pedestrians, with ramps and prams everywhere. The facades of historic buildings have been restored or are being restored. It can be seen that the municipality keeps an eye on the condition of the city. There are plenty of bars and restaurants at reasonable prices. A wide range of clothing shops covering the whole spectrum of prices. There is a good day’s sight seeing to be done, particularly in the old town and many old churches and public buildings (I wish I had done a bit of homework in advance). Plenty to see and do. Don’t miss Carhedral and market. Shopping is good all the usual plus lots of small businesses. Train station very close to centre with good connections all around, we did a day to Gijon to save driving lots of tight city streets. Oviedo is a place we are going back to.
Oviedo is a place we are going back to. The old city is very walkable and interesting, with good shops and sites. On top of being a great historical city, the mayor is also a significant asset. The center was more lively than any other on our trip. There was a very large street market selling food, luggage, clothes. The city counsel also "created" their own camino from Oviedo to Santiago, following what is a more pleasant route than the traditional one that follows major roads. This and the allowance of a street protest in the plaza shows that this city, while old, is still alive. Definitely should be visited if in area and stay a while.Guest review bydon sneddonHong Kong
