A wonderful, historic hotel that served me very well as a base for a few days of remote work, birdwatching, and relaxation on the lake. Within easy reach of Parikkala, Siikalahti, and Punkaharju. The caretakers were very friendly, even allowing me to use a spare router to make sure I had strong enough internet to work.

Overlooking Lake Simpele, this countryside property is within 10 minutes’ drive of Parikkala. It provides guest rooms, a restaurant and free Wi-Fi. Guests can rent bikes, canoes and motor boats. All of Hotel Laatokan Portti’s room options feature a TV, fridge and coffee maker. Guest rooms have either a private bathroom or shared facilities. A daily breakfast buffet can be ordered. Open during summer, the restaurant offers varied lunch and dinner menus including salmon, steaks and chicken. Fishing equipment is available for rent on site, and snow mobile rental can be arranged. Staff are happy to help organize guided hiking trips and other activities. Punkaharju is within 30 minutes’ drive of Laatokan Portti, while Imatra is 45 minutes’ drive away. KonKaSki Ski Center, 7.8 mi away, has downhill slopes and cross-country ski trails.
