The proprietors were so lovely and helpful. The hotel is beautifully decorated and maintained. Very clean. Really nice breakfast.

''Le Coin des Artistes'' is one of the twenty historical buildings in Giverny. At the end of the nineteenth century, Giverny numbered 300 inhabitants and stretched along 4 kilometres, enclosed by the billsides of the plateau above and by the easily flooded valleys of the Epte and Seine Rivers below. Nov converted into a 'Bed and Breakfast', ‘’Le Coin des Artistes or Artists' Corner was, at the time, one of several cafe-grocer's shops so essential to village life. The cafe had several different names given by its successive owners. Both a meeting place and a place to relax, these cafes were not only popular as convivial social sites, but also as practical shops where one could obtain commodities without having to go into the city of Vernon, The owner played an essential role, sharing the latest news and providing information to passing visitors. Giverny counted five of these establishments where farmers met with pleasure after a hard day of labour, drinking Cailloutin, the local wine. They talked about recent events, exchanged ideas and gossip and then devoted themselves to card games or dominos.
