Bayeux is a lovely town and very central to all of the D Day beaches and many other interesting places related to WW2.
The town is not too big so a lot can be seen in a reasonable space of time.
The British memorial cemetery there is one of the most poignant I visited.

Our tour of the D. day beaches was very interesting and moving. The Norte Dame Cathedral de Bayeux was a highlight of the city as well as the tour of the Tapestry. Restaurants were all outstanding. We would love to go back.

Loved this town because it's like going back in time, when people aren't in a hurry and take pride in their town and their food, culture, etc. Proud that they survivied WW2, and the importance to educating their children about it. Had a lovely tour about that. Went to great restaurants that our hotel Hotel D'Argouges recommended for us. Le Pommier and Le Volet Qui Penche!! Like to go back when it's warmer to see the beautiful flowers in bloom, we went 3/8, so I would like to go back in April sometime.

Do not stay here, this hotel is unkept, dirty, run down, and in dire need of maintenance. The room was not what we booked, so we were forced into a tiny cramped room. I had to sleep with half of the lamp hanging over the bed. The window wouldn’t close, we were in the second floor but still unsafe
location was exceptional - close to town but on a quiet street with a big park across the street. the back yard of the property was very large and private - many areas to sit and relax. our host was very knowledgeable of Bayeux and the surrounding areas - had lots of great sightseeing and culinary suggestions. The rooms were if a good size with large washrooms. every morning breakfast was plentiful and delicious and each day there was a surprise Normandy treat made by our host - thank you Pascal for a most enjoyable stay
Located not far from Bayeux which is a beautiful town in Normandy. Our room was comfortable, clean and quiet. We had a lovely breakfast every morning. Although I would have liked to perhaps have been offered a boiled egg, or perhaps yoghurt and fruit. However the bread, cheese and ham was good.
Nathalie, the owner was friendly and welcoming. And she gave us information on restaurants in the area.
This property was the perfect place to base ourselves for our trips to the Normandy beaches and also to Le Mont St Michel.
Since we were traveling by car, having a secure parking area was important. However, we were charged extra ($16 euros) to park our car in their closed lot. The location was very good and made it easy to walk to city locations of interest in the city such as the Bayeux Tapestry. Travel to the Normandy Beaches was easy but required a car. Breakfast was good, however, some foods (like scrambled eggs) were taken by earlier guests before we arrived in the breakfast room and were not replenished for us.
If you’re going to Bayeux, stay here! It’s an old tower that was renovated into a beautiful open modern space with thoughtful touches. It was by far the best place we stayed in France! It’s right next to the center of town and a short walk to everything. Paula was a great host who had terrific recommendations and even helped us make reservations for dinner. There’s free street parking very close by. We wish we could have stayed longer and can’t recommend this place enough!
Location was excellent for access to everything in Bayeux, including the nice bar on the ground floor of the building, and the fantastic Saturday market on the car park opposite. And Bayeux is an excellent base to explore Normandy. The large, free car park around the corner was convenient.
The living/dining space was pleasant, and we did have drinks on the little, south-facing balcony. The apartment, bedlinen, towels etc. were all clean enough.
This was a last minute find due to an unexpected cancellation. Much better than the one we had originally booked. Simple, plain little apartment in a fully restored historic building on the edge of the old town centre. Perfectly located. We stayed 4 nights. Easy to get in and out of Bayeux. We also always got a parking space right at the gate in the street.
The location of Villa Lara was perfect! There were several restaurants and historic landmarks within easy walking distance. The staff was incredible. The owner took us on a tour of the city which was the highlight of our trip. The hotel is also in a perfect location to meet tour companies for the Normandy WWII tours. Outstanding stay!
Everything was perfect. Frederick and the staff could not have been more attentive to any need you had. Hotel is historic but had modern amenities in the rooms. Perfect location, beautiful hotel and excellent stay. Would absolutely go back next time in Normandy. Bayeux is a great spot to launch all your tours of Normandy.
The staff was wonderful. We had the room with a couch and it was a big room. The location was great. The atmosphere in the lounge with the fire place and chairs was awesome. I saw a review the hotel didn’t have air conditioning. It’s Normandy! You don’t need it. I would stay here again
The house was beautifully decorated and maintained. Absolutely spotless. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Our hostess Florence helped us connect with our Normandy Beach Tour to confirm that the tour company would pick us up at the hotel. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!
The location of the property was centrally located in Bayeux and quiet from street noise. There was parking for the unit in a courtyard and this made it easy for us to leave on time each morning for our Normandy tours. Staying in Bayeux is great for touring the Normandy battlefields.
From the staff to the facilitates, location, and even dining, this spot was exactly what we hoped for in an affordable hotel. Conveniently located right in the middle of town, Hotel Reine Mathilde is the perfect landing spot to rest and recuperate between Normandy adventures.
Bayeux was such a great town. We booked this property so that we could stay in Bayeux for the night before going on a Normandy tour. It was perfectly located with free parking and it was so close to the town. The room itself was super cute and the street quiet.
Room was very quiet; location was very tranquil; loved on site parking; breakfast was decent but no hot meat (ie sausages); room had a kettle and was roomy; great location easy to access the roads to explore Normandy; short 10 minute walk to downtown Bayeux
Very nice hotel in an excellent location, very clean rooms, excellent hosts. The second time my wife and I have stayed here, and I've already booked up for a September return to do a Normandy battlefield tour with my son.
charming, convenient, fabulous gardens, gracious and efficient host, luscious and lovely breakfast a perfect lodging for the total Bayeux/ Normandy experience.
also has off street parking
Roomy apt with secure bike storage in courtyard. 3rd floor no elevator (common in France) Bakery downstairs 1/2 baguette and croissant per person daily as part of rental.
