Firstly the location overlooking the Loch was just stunning and a wonderful surprise as didn't realise it was so close. Sitting on the terrace that evening was heaven. Staff friendly, even though our room was at the rear of the property it was still lovely. Our son had views of the Loch from his room. Bed so comfortable had great nights sleep, bathroom excellent and the complimentary toiletries were gorgeous. I cannot fault the rooms and we are already planning our next trip and will be staying here again

The location is reasonably convenient although the Postcode brought us to a slightly different location. This may have been the fault of GPS rather than the hotel. The hotel was available when many others were fully booked and this was convenient for us.

FAQs about hotels in Fort William

In the Shadow of Ben Nevis

Fort William is shadowed by Great Britain’s highest peak, Ben Nevis, and lies on the shores of pretty Loch Linnhe. The Scottish Highland’s 2nd biggest city attracts hordes of hikers, climbers and mountain bikers, enhancing its self-proclaimed reputation as the ‘outdoor capital of Scotland’.

In the city centre, on High Street, is the West Highland Museum that explains local Highland history. The West Highland Way is a famous, long-distance walking route that begins and ends just outside Fort William.

The Nevis Range ski centre and Nevis Range gondola provides a stunning view of the Great Glen. A downhill mountain-biking track also begins here. This breath-taking track has hosted numerous world cups as well as the 2007 World Championships. Stop along the way to try the local whiskey at Ben Nevis Distillery.

Named after William of Orange, Fort William has been home to the Clan Cameron for many generations. Booking.com invites you to soak up the outdoor highlights and history of this charming city and surrounding countryside with its extensive range of hotels, bed and breakfasts and guest houses.

A small town but with shops, cafes, cinema and good rail and bus links.speciailses in outdoor activities as UK outdoor centre. The West Highland walking Way from Glasgow ends here and the Great Glen way to Inverness commences. Lots of walks from low level to high mountains with bike trails and plentiful buses to lochs and mountains. The town sits on a loch amidst mountains and the loch is actually a 30 mile inlet of the Atlantic. Thomas Telfords, Caledonian Canal and Neptunes Staircase ( locks) is nearby with boat moorings.

Fort William is not a destination for city viewing tourism.

Fort William is not a destination for city viewing tourism. It is a tourist destination for people who like long outdoor walks or hiking in the mountains. Also, Fort William is a tourist destination for Harry Potter fans, since the Hogwarts Steam Train runs between Fort William and Mallaig, and the famous Glenfinnan viaduct is located not very far away. Please keep in mind that the Harry Potter train is not cheap, and the tickets need to be booked well in advance. You also need a car to travel to the Glenfinnan viaduct.

Ft William has alot to offer the tourist.

Ft William has alot to offer the tourist. The railway is the principle method for tourists arriving without a car, either by a dedicated sleeper service from and to London, or regular daytime services from Glasgow Queen St. The scenery is to die for, the Jacobite steam train to Mallaig is a world class journey, and the highest mountain the the UK is right on the doorstep. Access to Anoch Mor via cable car and then a walk along the ridge or just walking up the defined tracks from the south side gets you to the summit of Ben Nevis. The views from here on a clear day are simply spectacular. The Southern entrance to the Caledonian canal is nearby at Banavie, and worth a visit just to see Neptunes staircase locks. The canal joins Ft William to Inverness and boats can be hired from Inverness for a weeks holiday. Well worth it.

We stayed at Ossians Hotel in Fort William after completing the final stage of the West Highland Way. The hotel is located right in the charming pedestrian zone, which makes it very convenient for exploring the town on foot. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, which we really appreciated after a long day of hiking. The beds were fairly comfortable, and a simple breakfast was offered free of charge. Overall, the hotel served its purpose for a short stay and provided the essentials we needed after finishing our long-distance hike.

The room had a good size for two big suitcases and we had a nice view onto the lake. An elevator to all floors as well as an included parking spot. The hotel staff was very friendly and we could quickly check-in and -out. The breakfast for additional 10 pounds was great, we could choose a plate with whatever we wanted as well as other beverages and food that was provided. Nice location close to Fort William.
