The manager we spoke with and the location of the hotel, as well as the decor and bathrooms, were all very good however, our stay was not ideal. I think if there had not been a wedding on the property the night we were there, our experience may have been different though. The pool/fitness/spa area looked lovely though we did not have a chance to use it.
This stay was not a great one for us. A few things that may be constants were a lack of temperature control in the room combined with an inability to open the windows, our view of a rooftop and stovepipe tops and the tired carpet in the room that should be either cleaned or replaced. The main issue for us however was noise. A wedding reception with a great band, that we could hear clearly (and loudly from our room two floor above) went until almost 2 am. It sounded as though we were next door to them. We had returned to our hotel room on this night rather than experience the cool vibe and pubs in Limerick so that we could get a full nights sleep. Unfortunately, after requesting a room change at 11:30 pm (hotel was full) and ear plugs around 1 am (not available), we were up until about 2:30 or 3am. After the music finally ended, the guests started coming back to their rooms, yelling, laughing, swearing at each other in the hallways, and pounding on each others doors. All of it sounded like it was going on through paper walls. It was truly the least soundproof room I have ever slept in (and I spend about 7-8 nights a month in hotels). I do not know if rooms on higher floors or on the river side of the building which were not directly over the reception hall might have been more quiet, but one can only hope! When we spoke to the Manager Sean in the morning, he was quite lovely and apologetic. We discussed perhaps putting wedding guests in the rooms above the receptions but that may not always be possible I suppose, based on occupancy. In the end, I would strongly recommend checking to see if any events (especially weddings) are scheduled there before booking. Of course, the wedding guests should be able to have a grand time, but non-wedding guests should be able to sleep.
