We bought a farm house in Northern Tuscany. We called it "our pile of rocks". It was too damaged to fix, so we built a new house on the same footprint-Casa Debbio. It has glorious views over the village of Vergemoli below & surrounded by mountains. It is stunning in any weather & every season. We face south, so the house basks in sunshine all day. The 3 level house was built from stone gathered from the property. We saved the volcanic stone arched doorway from the old house & put it in its original position. We have our own mountain spring which supplies water to the house and garden. There are several terraces where you can sit & admire the view. Lavender lines the paths and the fragrance is heavenly. The house is well equiped with everthing you will need for a relaxing holiday. The ground floor has a large kitchen & living room. The first floor has the main bedroom & bathroom, a study & a toilet. The top floor has 2 bedrooms & 2 bathrooms. There are views from every room. Our delightful gardener Filippo, is on hand to welcome guests & introduce them to Casa Debbio. We leave a small 4x4 car to drive between the house & village in case you don't feel like the 10-15 minute walk.

Casa Debbio stands alone above the village of Vergemoli in the Garfagnana area in Northern Tuscany, where the Appenine & Apuan Alps meet. We are in a national park surrounded by chestnut, hazelnut, mountain ash, oak and acacia. The only sounds are birds. In spring we have cuckoos, wood peckers & owls. Eagles and falcons fly overhead. On warm nights, fire flies fill the gardens. Our garden is beautiful. The land was terraced for farming & we found existing chestnut, hazelnut, walnut, sambucco, cherry, olive and fig trees. We have added dozens more fruit trees, 300 lavender, 200 rosemary, 60 peonies, roses, wisteria and much more. We have a stone barbeque & beside it a small Orto, where we grow tomatoes, rasberries, strawberries and gooseberries. Our area is filled with ancient villages, each with its own character, waiting to be explored. Vergemoli is a pretty, authentic mountain village. There is a small shop open for a few hours a day & a bar where the locals gather to chat. Our guests are made welcome and are invited to join local festivals and parties. There are lots of walking tracks nearby. Some are ancient mule trails and others are used by woodcutters.
