Incredible archeology sites within 20 minutes by taxi: Chan Chan merits a visit of 2-3 hours, same for La Huaca de la Luna. It's more like a 2 hour drive to reach el Brujo, another amazing site. Trujillo itself has a really nice old town with a gorgeous cathedral, buzzing main plaza, and lively pedestrian streets. Good restaurants, especially Al Dente Trattoria. Outside the old town, San Andres is a pleasant residential area nearby. Huanchaco is a fun seaside town just a quick ride away. Uber is cheap and easy.RoisinUnited States - 10Scored 10

We were in Trujillo for 2 days, 3 nights which was about right . The archeological sites nearby are well worth it, the square is pretty, nice colors And architecture , and there are good restaurants. Definitely stay around the square. That said, I wouldn’t make a special trip here unless you are needing to stop on the way North or South or you are an archeology person. One day we went to Huanchaco which was a bit of a disappointment- very scrappy town , interesting sort of.. but honestly don’t expect a charming beach town . The surrounding area is depressing. We did see the classic boats near the pier and had high hopes for a restaurant “Big Ben” It had great 3rd floor views, was clean and pleasant service but the food and uninspired menu a bland disappointment. Prices were high for the area . We weren’t sure if the other restaurants were safe for Gringo stomachs ! No Uber , taxis are cheap . The Archeological museum run by the University in Trujillo is small but excellent -CarolUnited States - 10Scored 10

It is a phenomenal city but there is a lot of crime and I think it best to only be out and about with a local citizen who knows when and where trouble is brewing. Crazy helpful and nice owner who speaks great English. Great contact all the time. On the day of check-out, we had to transport to the next place in the evening, we could stay in the apartment until the end of the day. The hotel is in the city center about 15 minutes from the Plaza de Armas by foot and 1.5 blocks from the main pedestrian street Pizarro. The room was clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. The included breakfast was s buffet of scrambled eggs, bread, cheese, olives, fruit, yogurt, juice and coffee. There was usually hot water with good water pressure. WiFi was strong.

The hotel was super clean (they even changed our sheets in the middle of our stay) and the shower (a rain shower) was the best shower in whole of south america if you ask me. And they have super fast internet. Would anytime stay there again!

There is a kitchen available for use. Breakfast available if you want. THE TORTOISES ARE AWESOME! And Trujillo city centre is actually pretty. The hostel is 100 metres from a pleasant walking street that leads all the way down to the main plaza.
