I try to see the positives in places but overall I didn't enjoy Belgrade. It is quite an ugly, run down city in many areas, not a huge amount to do in the city and unfriendly. We definitely got a strong feeling that most locals didn't like Western Tourists due to the NATO action in 1990s. Some were kind and welcoming, but mostly rude, which made us feel uncomfortable. We were treated very rudely in a few shops/restaurants for no obvious reason which shocked us. One tour guide constantly mentioned politics and was anti-west, which made for a painful situation as we are not political. It was almost as if he held us responsible for 'NATO aggression' as he put it. We saw huge military posters on buildings also and various political slogans on buildings, masses of political banners everywhere.
On the plus side, the food was delicious, but very meat orientated so probably not the best place for vegans! Alcohol cheap also. It's a brilliant place if you like strange, brutalist architecture as it's everywhere.
The Serbian countryside was lovely and bucolic, so it was nice to explore the beautiful nature on our own. Golubac Fortress was very impressive and many pretty fairy-tale looking Monasteries. Novi Sad was a much more attractive city than Belgrade and possibly a more relaxing/friendlier place to stay. We did a very nice walk to Avala Tower through a beautiful forest, that was very much a highlight.
If you go to Serbia I'd recommend staying in Novi Sad and doing Belgrade on a day trip rather than the other way on, it's a much nicer city.

Belgrade waterfront is perfectly designed and maintained,an oasis every big city should have.Otherwise,Belgrade with its hills and rivers has a lot of potential but beautifull -it is not.Charming though-it is.With traffic chaos, bad infrastructure, poor public transportation, dilapidated buildings but friendly, direct people,a lot of restaurant choices and vibrant nightlife. You will likely love it at the end.

Great value for money, especially when it comes to food and other consumables. Belgrade is something of a cradle of multiple civilisations and there are plenty of things to do both in the city or on day trips.

Overall Balkans are not for us as we had some previous experience with Montenegro.
We don't really like fat food, people smoke everywhere and even the capital Belgrade looks dirty and you can feel different smells, you know.
But still the architecture is really interesting and we loved our walks through the streets, bicycle culture seems to be great as well.

Thank you for your unprofessional response.
Thank you for your unprofessional response. That clearly states your educational and customer service level!!
By saying "I used your coffee machine, broke it, and caused a flood in your hotel" is just outrageous!!!!!!
It was prepared for me by your staff! There was "no sign posted anywhere, do not use this machine" !!
Before you unfairly accuse another guest of breaking it, perhaps you might add it in the future!
From 9 pm to 9 am I was unable to access the internet. It wasn't inaccessible "for just 45 minutes", as you said in your comment.
First and first, you ought to train your staff in providing a good customer service, and it goes without saying that the person who replied back to my review ought to have done it herself/himself first!!!!!!
I would never stay at your hotel again, and I would never recommend it to anyone either.
Thank you and goodbye from London City!!!

Not the best city for vacation.
Not the best city for vacation. We stopped over for a night due to the lengthy distance between Dubrovnik and Romania. Too much graffiti, kind of dirty as well and it doesn’t feel as safe as other countries that we visited.
But the accommodation and the traditional food were a very pleasurable experience.
The owner was a friendly, very polite and helpful Serbian guy, who carried our heavy luggage, showed us where to park (very close to the hotel). The room was very clean and comforable. The location of the hotel was very central. We should have booked a slightly more expensive room, so we could have enjoyed a hotel room on the first or second level. Unfortunately we had decided to book the cheaper room, which meant, that we got a big, clean but souterrain room. We regretted not paying a little more for a room on a higher level.
The apartment is in a very central but quiet location. At a short distance you find supermarkets, nice restaurants, bars, the university, tourist attractions, the main shopping street and a stop for many bus lines. The apartment itself is very cozy and has everything you need for your stay. And Jovanna and her parents were very helpful and nice. I stay there for 2 weeks while visiting a Serbian course in Belgrade and visiting the city and was always nice to come to apartment which felt like home during my stay. :)
The location is just perfect because you will be located in the center of Belgrade near the famous Kalamegdan, the streets around are pretty alive. Good for someone who wants to visit Belgrade and mostly by walk.
Had one of the appartement with the bedroom and living room, lovely one, I felt at home, was important to me as I am originally from Serbia.
Ana, that I had the chance to have on phone will try to help you for further questions and welcome you the best way with her team.
My host is an amazing guy. He greeted me with a cup of delicious turkish coffee. It feels like your own home. Everything is available whatever you need- Iron, washing machine, coffee maker, gas, fresh water and so on. The place is clean like a new house. You will definitely love this place. The most beautiful part is- it is so cheap and the food around the corner is pocket friendly unlike over prized food in the city centre. I will rate it 10 out of 10 for my best stay in Belgrade
😍😍
The restaurant/hotel is perfectly situated in a quiet street close to the international bus station, the market and the city center. You can virtually get everywhere in the city from there as there are several busses and trams of the public transport round the corner. The rooms are cosy and clean and the restaurant with its beautiful garden offers Serbian specialities. I think I finally found a place to stay in Belgrade in the future.
Excellent hotel, excellent room with a wonderful bathroom and a very comfortable bed. Very friendly staff at the reception and in the breakfast restaurant. Top-quality breakfast, with a lot of choice of food and desserts and various natural juices. Probably the best in Belgrade. Such a nice outside terrace and a very cozy place for a coffee and a cake. Top marks for both the staff and the hotel. My warm recommendation.
Very nice hotel close to the city center. This is a hotel on the boat (typical hotel for Belgrade) on the Danube. You can even walk through the Branko's bridge to the old town of Belgrade very easily. I have booked the best possible room - with the terrace and river view which is spectacular and very big room. Staff is also very friendly. I highly recommend this hotel when staying in Belgrade.
Hotel Balkan is awesome, renovated and the rooms are one of the best I have stayed at in my life. I don't think you can find a better location than Hotel Balkan, right across from Hotel Moskva in the city centre. We were there to celebrate New Year's and the event was at a different venue but the hotel was simply excellent and I would not stay anywhere else in Belgrade in the future.
Lovely atmosphere, very friendly hosts, located on a quiet street, but close to the city centre. My kid and I loved stayng there. Be warned, top floor has a steep staircase, but there is an option when booking a room to choose if you need lower floor. Breakfasts were delicious, and the breakfast room is beautifully decorated. Would definitely recommend this hotel.
The owner of the apartment is just the best man in Serbia that you could find. If you need transfer to or from airport - he will help. If you need to know anything about Belgrade - he will gladly tell you. If you need something - he will try to solve your issue. Very lovely place and hospitality.
Hotel Personnel were very kind, smiley. Breakfast was very tasty and nice. Hotel is very close to city center, nice restaurants and I highly suggest all planning to travel to Belgrade to stay in M house.
It a modern hotel in the city center. It has its own builing, not as like as many "luxury apartments". Very good place to stay. Tasty breakfast and best silent location. Friendly staff and good rooms.
Definitely the best hotel in Belgrade. Friendly and helpful staff. The food in the restaurant is excellent. Best of all is the video library on TV. Airport pick up service was TOP
The hotel is located in the city center of Belgrade, yet away from all the noise. The rooms are nice, with a very comfortable bathroom. We liked the breakfast a lot.
Very well organized, clean and superbly equipped apartment. Location is one of the best in Belgrade - city center, but silent and cozy. Fully recommend!
