With a dome reminiscent of Brunelleschi’s "The Duomo" in Florence, the Hungarian parliament building is undoubtedly the icon of Budapest. It sits majestically by the Danube, the river that both divides and unifies the 2 parts of this capital city: Buda and Pest.
Overseeing Budapest from its vantage point on Castle Hill is Buda Castle. Spectacularly lit at night, it offers the best views across this attractive city steeped in World Heritage. Some unique points of interest are Heroes Square and the Museum of Terror, reminders of the city’s more turbulent past.
Much like in Vienna further up the Danube, coffee and cake is practically an institution in Budapest. And there’s nowhere better to try this than Gerbeaud - the elaborate décor alone makes this café well worth a visit.
To really feel like a local, make a trip to the thermal baths. The relaxed Gellért Baths are a triumph of Art Nouveau grandeur, while based on their sheer size, you can't miss the outdoor Széchenyi Baths. If unusual nightlife is your thing, the club nights at these baths are great fun.
With an impressive range of Budapest hotels, apartments and hostels on offer in this city of 2 halves, Booking.com makes your choice completely easy.

Very grand buildings, excellent coffee shops and an abundance of public transport. Food is very good with plenty of choice.
The city seems very safe and English is widely spoken, although not so much outside Budapest.
Weather in December was predictably cold but to counter the cold was the warmth of the Christmas Markets; which were in full swing.
History is everywhere and the £ seems to go a long way. Enjoy!

We were told by staff at metro office that free transport by bus / tram was available for pensioners so we did not buy the 3 day ticket. However we weren't sure if it just applied to EU member states. Most things are walkable so make use of the maps that are freely available.
We enjoyed the Red bus tour to give us a general view of what sights to see and where they were - and it included a short boat trip.
The funicular to the Castle district was undergoing maintenance when we went there. Normal buses go up there (number 80?) and therefore tourists should avoid the small open sided buses which we used but only to get to the main square (so price was a con). Once up there it is all pretty much level. Amazed at the rebuilding of all the various buildings. Saw the changing of the guard. As the weather was dry and sunny (but cold) we spent time outside - but museums and baths looked good.

Budapest is a beautiful must see city.
Budapest is a beautiful must see city. We went to see a wonderful performance of the Nutcracker Ballet at the Opera House.
However the Christmas Market was disappointing. It used to be so much better. The prices of practically everything from gifts to food and drink are outrageous. Sadly we won't be going back next year.
We do recommend a visit to the Budapest Cat Museum.
Public Transport for 65s and over is free around the city and this includes the airport bus!

Very easily accessible city all links to public transport are never far between, easily to acces on foot, train, tram, bus and bicycle.
Beautiful city full of history and culture and the locals are all very nice. Felt safe and comfortable here food delicious also!
Ate a lot of street food and fast food but shop around bever too far from an eatery or cafe.
Fairly priced, however souvenirs are expensive I feel.
St Stephen's Basilica is a must. Go to the observatory and the views are unreal.
Matthias church beautiful area to visit and great photo apps.
Also the river cruises are amazing highly recommend of an evening as the Parliament buildings are so beautiful but even better at night when lit up. The cruise takes you straight past.
As well as the cruise itself the staff, drinks food and views were un real no complaints.
Will definitely be visiting again.

It's a nice city for a weekend getaway.
It's a nice city for a weekend getaway. Lovely city to walk through and just look around and enjoy in the architecture. There were so many great cafes and restaurants so whatever are your preferences, you will find a great place for you to drink and/or eat. We went in Christmas market season and the markets are lovely and there are a lot of stands with various things to offers - crafts, sweets, food, but beware of the prices as the food/drinks and everything on the stands is quite pricey. Otherwise the atmosphere is great.

An exceptional, boutique Hotel in a quiet area of Budapest. From the moment we arrived to our departure we were treated with professionalism, friendliness and kindness from all the staff. Exceptional design choices in our room as well as the Hotel. Beautiful garden, delicious breakfast and delicious lunch in their restaurant. Parking is on the property and the location of the Hotel is within easy walking distance to public transport to the City Centre. We loved our few days here and hope to return.
Everything was amazing at Carat Butique Hotel. Rooms were very clean, breakfast was amazing and best thing was that the staff was very friendly even tho our group was little bit loud sometimes. I would recommend this hotel to everybody who would like to visit Budapest. Location was outstanding, you just come downstairs and you are in the city centre. Thank you guys
It is a 5 star hotel but quite old fashioned. The rooms are not very modern but this is not necessarily bad. They are spacious and the bed is very comfortable. The location of the hotel is excellent close to the city centre and to public transport. The breakfast is one of the highlights of the hotel, it is very good.
This was the best stay I had in Budapest. Incredible location (in city centre, metro, Lidl and Burger King - a few feet away, drugstore and more stores across the street...), great staff, clean, comfortable, overall just a great place to stay.
Best hotel for location (city centre - walking distance from everything) and value (not as pricey as others).
The staff are super friendly.
The atmosphere is warm and cozy.
