Residence Soča is located in the heart of the Triglav National Park, which is the only national park in Slovenia. It is named after Triglav, which rises the highest (2864 m) in the heart of the park and is also the highest Slovenian peak. The Triglav National Park is located in the northwest of Slovenia along the border with Italy and near the border with Austria, in the southeastern part of the Alpine massif. It almost completely overlaps with the Eastern Julian Alps. It covers 840 square kilometers, which is four percent of Slovenia's surface. It is one of the oldest parks in Europe; the first protection dates back to 1924, when the Alpine Conservation Park was established.
