The Rarotongan is looking tired. We’ve been coming for seven years and it feels like it needs a lot of maintenance work. The roof is leaking in the main reception stairs and other places, (bucket was there for two weeks) and the female bathrooms are very old and feel gross (I didn’t see the males) The tiled areas need upgrading to grip tiles- they’re always wet and slippery and so mats are always out and look bad. Towels on the floors in the female bathrooms. Very poor breakfast selection, skeleton staff. Really sad as we LOVE the place. Sanctuary room we stayed in smelt musty. Just needs an injection of cash and it’ll be back to world class and amazing. It still is the best location on the island in my opinion. Just needs a vamp up.

We stayed in the honeymoon sweet which had a private pool, sauna and spa bath. It was very cute and the air con worked well. Great meals at the restaurant and beautiful beach for snorkelling.

The badly leaking roofs in some areas felt dangerous - water coming out light fittings and slippery underfoot. Food at the cafe was not consistent. The local food was often not available - except the fish which was wonderful. My seafood chowder had hardly any seafood in it and what was there was cheap frozen marinara from some other part of the world. Noisy children from late at night to early hours kept us awake as parents were drinking and not taking notice of their kids.

Breakfast was okay. Plenty to eat. Great croissants and coconut bread. Venue was amazing. Beautiful gardens and walkways. Amazing snorkelling and great toys for adults and children. Good activities that used local resources and focussed on learning more about local culture and flora and fauna.

The property is looking tired, needing repairs, new paint etc. some of the reception stuff were grumpy. Wifi being $20 per devise is ridiculous. Hot Chips undercooked.

The food at the resort. Some meals came out cold, no healthy options, lack of fresh fruit and vegetables. The room was very small for 4 people.

Ridiculous procedure getting anything from the bar - basically only one person serving and having to queue.Screening of sports in sports bar limited. Didn't even know what Sail GP was .staff not helpful at all.

We had interconnecting rooms beachside. The rooms are tired. They need a revamp and the beds need replacing. The most uncomfortable old beds I have experienced especially if they call themselves 4 star. The food was below average. Dont book breakfast included. Rather buy some cereal. And the food offered for special meals like Easter was well below average for the high price. Rather go to a nice restaurant

The bathrooms by activity hut wernt very clean, also no lock on the shower, our beachfront room was much smaller than I thought, we had trouble. Closing our bathroom door and the bar staff were a little rude and also made my caramel milkshake with honey so I couldn't drink it no apologies at all.

We loved all the activities, the pool and the kids club staff they were amazing!, front desk staff were helpfull too, chefs were great

We ordered lunch one day which took well over an hour because there were three private functions and they took precedence over house guests which we thought was quite wrong particularly as we had a 5 year old and the resort is supposed to be child friendly. The breakfast was very ordinary and we would give it 5 out of 10. We ate out when we could because the food was very average.

Room location very good and comfortable/suitable. Bar service ( drinks ) was exceptionally good. All staff were fantastic - friendly, happy and could't do enough for you

There’s a lot or random people turning up and jumping in and taking over pool so feels like a public pool not a resort. Lots of random people coming through. Food service ok, pricey. Stay fine overall.

We booked a beachfront and our room was located on the top floor which was more like a beach view. I think the price should be different for upstairs units as we expected the bottom unit based on photos

The rooms could do with a refurbishment it was a bit old and dirty in parts of the room. Most of the staff very friendly others not so.

Breakfast buffet was awful in terms of variety; provided side dishes only (e.g. fruit, ham, bread, coffee) and it was the same food everyday (we stayed 7 days in total)

The Food! I had a bug in my ordered meal at breakfast (it was replaced but I was put off so didn't eat it) and then I had mold on my cheese in my spaghetti bolognese one night at dinner. This was my 3rd stay at the Rarotongan and I use to love the food and cocktails specifically the Raro Burger and Chicken Fajita. The kai was underwhelming this time round and the cocktails were very sweet so may need some improving but overall was a great stay!
