Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

FranceThe room was so stuffy and hot.
There’s not much in the city besides partying but really easy access to Tayrona. The pool and rooftop is really nice. Lots of common spaces to meet people.

United Arab EmiratesHow I love Masaya Hostels since my first in Quito, Ecuador back in 2018… This one exceeded my expectations - gorgeous space, layout, two different kinds of swimming pools to suit your taste, 24 hour reception, 24 hour coworking space (excellent for my boyfriend who needed to work European hours during our stay)… We just needed one night in Santa Marta to break our long travels so we chose the budget friendly dorms, and it didn’t fall short on quality and attention to details. Great WiFi, rooftop space with their own restaurant and communal kitchen, location is pretty much centre, just a few blocks from all the happenings… Keeping my eye out for more Masaya’s <3

TurkeyMy room was at basement and it had humidity problem. Also AC was old. Could be better.
It is not just a facility, it is also an experience. Well preserved colonial building. A living place full of energy.

ColombiaEvery time we usted the fan, it would disperse clouds of dust throughout the room. Also, surrounding the hotel there are a lot of homeless people, and down the street there’s an abandoned building where they gather and it smells like piss all day
The staff was super friendly and fun, the breakfast was good and had a lot of options and the pools were amazing

United KingdomBright orange wristbands with Masaya printed on them. They immediately singled us out as tourists. A more subtle way to identify guests would be preferable.
Rooftop bar and restaurant were very pleasant. Lots of cocktails to choose from. Some shaded areas to sit quietly or hammocks to relax in. There were also 2 small pools to cool off in. There was free chilled safe drinking water at reception. Close to the lively waterfront and centrally located. Front door security was a reassuring addition as area had a few unsavoury characters. Good value for money.

GermanySometimes it was really loud in the night, because everything is opened, so you hear the music until late.
The rooms were clean and the beds were big. Everything was clean. I slept in a dorm of 6, the most time of it we were only 2 or 3 and it was completely fine but if there are really 6 people inside there is not enough space to move around freely. The bathrooms were inside the rooms and there was free shower gel and shampoo. The lockers were big enough. The terrace is really beautiful, upstairs you have restaurant/bar (the prices are also fine) and a pool and downstairs there is another pool. Each night there are different activities like yoga, salsa, live music etc. The location is also good, near the cathedral, only 5-10 min to the beach and 10min walking to the Mercado Publico de Santa Marta, from where you to Minca or Tayrona.

United KingdomThe AC temperature was too low at night and the room was a bit cold. It would be good for the facility to offer a blanket.
Great location, the facilities were clean and modern, and the atmosphere was welcoming. Friendly and helpful staff. Jaider & the bar staff were top-notch! Not only were they skilled bartenders, but they also took the time to chat with guests, share local tips, and ensure everyone had a great time!

Room: clean, smell nice, dark and quiet. Staff: front desk 24/7 no complains very helpful staff. pool: clean and warm. breakfast: it was fair not too many options. (American breakfast was unavailable during my stay). location: area was fairly close to everything, centro historico, malecon, parque de los novios, many restaurants and night clubs. outside from Masaya is very busy, dirty and loud however after you inside you can feel peace. last but not least during my stay and experience this hostel is more for adults. perfect for solo travels, couples, friends.
