To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.

IrelandThe apartment was on a upper floor and there was no lift. Although this was not a problem for us, it could be difficult for someone elderly or with mobility issues
A very pleasant, clean, spacious and well equipped apartment - ideal for a couple. It is located very centrally, so very easy to get about on foot. The owner lives on the ground floor and she was welcoming and pleasant to deal with

Very beautiful building in Lourdes. Lovely, quiet residential street, but a short walk to the sanctuary. A world away from the crazy tourist area, yet a stone’s throw from great restaurants. The apartment itself is beautiful, spotless and in a historic, beautifully preserved building.

FranceAccess to building was not easy and there is no parking at the site, public parking is a good walk away. Although there are 6 apartments that were empty, they assigned us the 5th floor having to climb several flights of stairs with our luggage. No proper shades on windows to block the light.
