Heating system, the room was really hot even though the heating was turned off.

The secure parking is a few streets from the hotel, it is great and worth the fee, however it can be a little awkward at times as when needing items from your car as you have to be accompanied by a member of staff, they would fetch the car for you, however our car is very low and we were concerned about the speed bumps! We were very impressed when our car had been covered in bird droppings, to find the next day a member of staff had washed the car for us and put a cover on it - you can't get better than that - thank you!

A wonderful hotel steeped in history, it commands an excellent position fronting the beach. Beautiful building and tastefully decorated throughout. Good choice of restaurants and shops nearby. Good sized room, clean and very nicely decorated. Breakfast was excellent with wonderful service and ample choice for all tastes. Private beach with parasols and windbreaks make a day on the beach very comfortable, with a hotel restaurant adjacent. Room service very efficient and meals high quality. Staff were all delightful and the Concierge very informative and professional.

The private beach was for extra charge. and this is the only thing that we didn't like about the hotel. As a private beach of a 5 stars hotel normally it is out of charge!

Historic hotel where Proust stayed every summer from 1907 to 1913, described in his 2nd book as The Grand Hotel of Balbec. We are big fans of Proust, so this was the main reason for the stay. Hotel is very nice, but rather expensive. Alas, Proust former room (420) was converted to a conference room.

The hotel has been refurbished but still the leather headboard on our bed damaged and old . Cigarette burn on chair upholstery in room .Needs a little more focus on bedrooms to live up to 5 * rating .

The long wait to get our room, especially when you come form far and have children. Check-in time can't be 4.00 pm when the check-out time is at 12.00 !! Never seen this anywhere else. Not even a glass of water during all this time! Noone told us that that the water in the fridge was free and available. The only water we had for the night was two small bottles given to us by the taxi driver from Caen station to the hotel... A black glove was lying on the floor in the bathroom when we arrived and stayed there until we left! So what do we deduce? The room and bathroom had not been cleaned during our stay??!!

Dinner at bellbeck restaurant. Food and service went hand in hand!
