Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomWe travelled with 2 well behaved dogs. In the evening we were refused entry to the dining room which we understood. We were offered a space for dinner in the Cathedral room, a lounge area. The staff were very attentive, we were the only people in the room, but the only tables to eat food from were low coffee tables unsuitable for dining. In addition we requested some coffee pods for our room that were not delivered.

AustraliaThere were a few unexpected additional service charges per room. The room had a little water damage down one wall in the bathroom and it’s quite remote from anything else meaning the drive in was down very narrow lanes but otherwise nothing else was a negative and the positives by far outweigh the negatives.
Superb property - well appointed and quite luxurious. The grounds are amazing, the rooms large and the beds very comfortable. The falcon display was worthwhile and the entire experience was extremely enjoyable.

United KingdomWe had been promised the lodge that was considered 'the best' in Bovey Castle. However, upon arrival we realised we had moved to an alternative without any notice or explanation. By the time the original lodge was ready, my family especially elderly parents were settled and did not want to move.
Grounds, facilities and staff were exceptional. Very attentive especially when we needed a first aider. Smith's Brasserie served a delicious Sunday roast!

United KingdomThe main restaurant was closed and the Brasserie was standing in. Some food was excellent (Fillet Steak; Hogs Pudding Egg) and some was mediocre (Minescule Fish Pie was mainly potato; Ravioli didn't appear to be fresh). The Bar only served spirits in 50ml and wine in 175ml measures. Minor points, but you did ask!
Fantastic location and facilities. The room was absolutely sperb with views over the grounds and the moor. The optional activities (Archery and Falconry) were also superb as were Rob and Martin who supervised them.

United KingdomThe fact that we just couldn't get your television to work properly and we gave up on it in the end as it became irrelevant to our stay. We would have preferred a paper welcome instruction book especially for the elderly in our group. We could not access it on the television due to the problems with it. We also would have appreciated more information about disability access as my father is disabled and can't work very far. You did supply a parking space outside our Lodge and supplied a golf trolley for the wedding which was most appreciated but had we known just how far the main residence was from the Lodge, and how hilly it was, we would have put my father in the main hotel. He felt very isolated from the hotel either side of the wedding
We attended a wedding with family who had multiple different needs so self catering was ideal. We would have partaken of your breakfast but felt that it was rather on the steep side for so many of us. Maybe you could offer a cheaper self-catering option for your guests in the Lodges. The Lodges were superb and beautifully decorated and furnished and had all the equipment that we needed. Your staff were amazing and supplied all the extra equipment that was needed

United Kingdomthe food/restaurant felt below the standard expected for a 5 star hotel. the breakfast in particular stands out as inaccessible for those with dietary requirements - I asked if the vegetarian sausages were vegan and was told the chef didn’t know and couldn’t be bothered to check. I ended up eating just porridge which didn’t feel particularly luxe for a 5 star hotel!
location and views bar was fantastic and bar staff were very helpful and attentive we also stayed for a birthday and were gifted chocolates which was lovely!

Switzerland-the wine collection is not 5***** like. -the bar tables outside were not cleaned regularly. there was often the rests from the people before on the table -at one door there were a lot of cigarette stubs on the ground (probably from the stuff)

United States of AmericaWe liked everything -- perfect spot for what we were looking for.
By the time we reached Bovey Castle we had been traveling for a few weeks and this was just the oasis we needed! The facilities are exquisite with many rooms (libraries, lounges, bar) to relax in, most with a roaring fire to combat grey, rainy April weather. Our rooms was very large and comfortable with beautiful views of the gardens. We didn't leave the property for two days except to borrow some wellies and take a walk in the rain. There was only one dining room open, but the food for dinner and breakfast was delicious and we also indulged in a lovely afternoon high tea and cocktails. A last minute spa appointment for a massage was heaven. Exactly what you want and expect of a 'castle' in a national park. Driving out to our next destination we were blown away by hundreds of lambs, ponies, and the gorgeous scenery of the Dartmoor park.
