To be fair the property is on a very busy main road and traffic noise was loud however, it didn’t spoil our stay and we knew before hand the location.

The location was perfect to where we needed to be. The breakfast served in the morning was brilliant good choice and set us up for the day.

Lack of hair shampoo / conditioner and fresh bottle drinking water would have been nice -

Whilst the actual location is poor, being next to a busy A27 and thus noises at night, the interior was first class and equals well known hotel brands - only downside was no Restaurant available for evening meals although Lewis has many Great places to eat , not the same of you want to drink - breakfast is served and was excellent

No food available in the evening. Lacking atmosphere in the evening as everyone had to eat out. Venue a little dated c1980s

Very accommodating staff. Seemed like it was a group of friends running the place. Were able to order from just eats for dinner although not all venues would deliver. Website did not mention dinner was not available!

We liked everything but it would be better if evening meals were still available as there are only about 4 places that deliver takeaway to there and there are no cafes or restaurants walking distance away as the inn is located on A27 dual carriageway.

Breakfast was great - nicely cooked full English. Good quality sausages, bread etc. Veggie brekkie also available. Also cereals, croissants, fruit, yoghurt ... Sets you up well for a day of hiking on South Downs! Staff were friendly and cheerful. Our room was spacious and cosy. Bath and hot towel rail were great after getting soaked in rain on the South Downs Way! Only about 15 min drive into central Brighton but it was much better value than staying in Brighton. Also only 10 min drive into Lewes. Lots of places of interest to visit but would only recommend staying here if you have a car.

The bar area was well decorated but my room and corridors were in a poor state of decoration. In the middle of the night floodlighting of the building exterior of the building intermittently turned on and off and continued throughout the night illuminating my room and disturbing my sleep.

    Ease of access from highway.

Only the location, and that's hardly your fault -- getting back north into Lewes by driving south when on a segregated highway was very difficult for us as strangers.

Rooms, beds, showers, bathrooms all very good. The unique experience was our buying in Indian takeaway supper for the 3 of us, suggested and arranged by the manager, because he could not offer evening food and serving it to us with plates, cutlery, etc. on 2 successive evenings (the portions were so huge) plus the washing up -- at no charge. Now that was REAL service and very much appreciated (as we told him of course). We had a good continental bkfst for 4.95 which I thought a pound or so underpriced. The full bkfst looked very good, although not our kind of food -- also very good value at 9.95.

This is a budget hotel by a main road so expectations need to be adjusted. I did think the breakfast a bit cheap greasy spoon. A little more spent on quality ingredients would go a long way. Good sausages and good quality eggs would be an improvement. You can tell when a hen has been well fed and cared for! But the helping was generous and there was plenty of tea and coffee.

The room was spacious, clean and well furnished. The decor was a bit 'mock Tudor' but I liked it. The bathroom had a proper bath in it and was also spacious. There was also a little writing desk with chairs. Although our room fronted onto the nearby A27 we did not find traffic noise a problem. There is some but it is low key especially after 10pm. The rooms are double glazed. The sheets were quite decent quality I thought.

The place needed a good overhaul, there was a diagonal crack from floor to ceiling on the landing, the bedroom needed a new carpet, as it was stained and virtually warn out, there must of been a water leak from upstairs room as there was a water stain on the ceiling and the wall, with run marks down the wall, In the bathroom the heated towel rail had some plastic wrapped around the joint not sue if it was to keep the oil in or what, the toilet had water running into it all the time, there was a half bottle of shampoo left in the shower. Overall as above it's a basic hotel which has been neglected by the company who own it and could of used the time by using their staff to spruce it up during covid instead of getting rid of them, felt sorry for the chap who was there working 85hrs a week to keep it running.

The staff member we met as there was only one we saw, was very friendly and helpful, he was at the time doing everything as they could not get staff, as the company that ran the hotel had either sacked or made redundant all the staff during covid and they did not come back, there's a surprise. The cooked breakfast was really good, the place was clean and tidy, beds were good, plenty of parking, did not hear much noise from the road A27 or the train line behind, in fact did not know there was a train line until a train went by. Overall it's a basic clean hotel, plenty of storage in the room for clothes etc.

The bar area downstairs is tired and overall the property he’s not in a great shape. The first room I had was a single for £85 pounds which I felt was more likely to be £35 a night. I did get moved after I mention this have a new room was much nicer.

The staff were helpful but parts of the property are very tired and in need of some TLC. The second room that I was moved to her was very nice so the window didn’t completely shut properly which meant more noise from the road. The staff were very nice.

Evening food options very limited - The Inn used to have food served in the restaurant in the evenings but apparently this is no longer the case - it does state this somewhere on the booking info. but not very clearly. With a restaurant on site the place would have been ideal as an overnight stop whilst cycling the South Downs Way, without one, unless you have a car, the options for food are limited to the petrol station shop next door or a taxi into Lewes or a delivery (only a couple of places deliver that far from Lewes). We had a very nice Thai meal in Lewes, but the taxi in cost £17 and we walked the 2 odd miles back which meant walking in the verge alongside the dual carriageway for some distance, so not a particularly nice walk. The outside of the Inn and the garden seems to have a very 'tired' and unloved look about it, although the rooms inside are nice and appear relatively recently refurbished.

Room very large with large bathroom, including bath, which is good after a long day cycling (not sure if the size related to it being a three bed room, although we only booked a double). Comfy beds and a good sleep even though it is next to a dual carriageway. The windows are double-glazed, so in winter with windows closed you wouldn't hear traffic noise. In summer, with windows open the traffic is audible, but didn't keep us awake. The breakfast was great - cooked English Breakfast and could have been bigger if we'd wanted. Large restaurant area to eat breakfast in. The staff were helpful and a hose was eventually located to help us in cleaning down our bicycles and somewhere secure was found to store them. Location good in terms of proximity to South Downs Way (practically on it) but poor in terms of places to eat or other things to do as there is not a good route to walk into Lewes and a taxi is quite expensive for the short distance.
