The secondary double glazing needs sorting out and the overhead shower could have been more than a trickle, though the secondary shower was fine. The hot tap in our room needed sorting out too

It was a shame we didn’t check beforehand that the dog friendly rooms were on the top floor, totally our fault for not checking but our elderly rottie really struggled with the steep flights of stairs

Staff literally bent over backwards to help with our needs, (we’d booked with two dogs, first time they’d had a hotel stay with us, one dog extremely hyper and needy.. 🤣) had a table booked for a meal before realising he’d just annoy everyone and would have screamed like a child if left in the room, went downstairs to cancel the table and was told we could have the smaller closed off dining area to ourselves, we was absolutely thrilled and enjoyed a delicious 3 course meal in private with both dogs, so kind of the staff, outstanding customer service

I was initially put on the second floor ... the room was nice but the stairs were exceptionally steep - too much for my dodgy knee ! The hotel was happy to swap me to another room on the first floor which was perfect.

Sometimes the tables in the lounge area aren't cleared, I met a friend for coffee a couple of weeks a go and the tables were in a rather bad way, even thought there were few customers.

I just love this hotel, and everything about it, I visit frequently and most of the time I see the same staff and they remember me too, how lovely.

The heating was too hot and uncomfortable to sleep. Also the waiter for the main meal was too attentive, needs to suppress his enthusiasm.

Less than 5 minutes from superb Holy Trinity church and N.T.Melton Hall. Flatford Mill in easy reach. Friendly and efficient reception. We were relocated without fuss to 1st floor rooms when we had difficulty with the steep staircase to 2nd floor. Cases all taken to room from car. Good food.

The view from room 2 at the Black Lion looking down over the village green towards Melford Hall (National Trust) is one of the best we have seen from any hotel. England at its finest. The food at the Black Lion is simply amazing and it is accompanied by a fine selection of wines and beers. Service is great and the staff are very friendly.

Comfortable and relaxing one night stay. Dinner was good as was breakfast. The real strength of the place lay within the cheerful helpful staff running it.

Feather pillows and duvet with no readily available replacements, causing an allergic reaction. Not the staff’s fault, who were nice and did their best. The shower was superb, with decent toiletries but the bathroom room itself could do with a refurb.

Some people may find the steps into the hotel somewhat steep, staff appear readily to assist.

Period property reflected authentic and picturesque features. The staff were friendly and helpful, breakfast was served very well and was delicious. Although I did not have dinner there, the hotel appeared to have a good clientele of guests and local dinners.

The staff were so friendly and helpful; nothing was too much trouble. They happily carried our bags to the room and were cheerful despite being incredibly busy. The food is excellent, particularly the breakfast. Our room was very comfortable with a great bath and plentiful good quality shampoo, conditioner, body lotion etc.
