Wonderful traditional hotel in the heart of Stamford. Very comfortable and relaxing. Nice bar areas and lovely. Excellent service. We were upgraded to a larger room which was a nice touch. Great breakfast!

Pricey but quality doesn't come cheap

At check-in we found we had no drink facilities in our room. Either coffee machine or kettle was expected for the room type or price. Advised that coffee would be brought to our room and was complimentary. We read this as coffee was complimentary for residents and we ordered coffee in the lounge over the weekend. But realised mistake at check-out and they then advised that coffee was only included in-room. So 4 cafetieres cost £46 but I didn't pursue it since the total 2 night bill was £760. We also told reception that we had experienced a problem in the restaurant the night before but it had been resolved on the spot. We had seen 2 menus for the main restaurant; the main one and a sub-set one which has 3 courses for £55 and 2 courses for £39. The latter didn't say that it was only valid on some days. So we paid £94 excluding wine & water for our meals.

The character of the hotel. The reception we received. Help carrying our case to our room. A tea-tray delivered to our room before breakfast. The breakfast service on our first day. The service in the lounge for coffee etc.

Our only comment is that we would have preferred tea and coffee making facilities in our room rather than having to phone for it when required. (There is no charge for this service)

A very clean, comfortable room with large bathroom. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was outstanding - great selection, freshly cooked quality ingredients. Location excellent.

That I only stayed one night!

Extremely good customer service with a smile. Lots of attention to detail and checking that you are happy with everything. Excellent dinner and breakfast. Thoughtful extras like tea and coffee delivered to the room complimentary. Flowers inside and out help make it a beautiful place to stay. Best Lobster Thermidor I’ve ever eaten. I can’t wait to go back.

The location was great. The establishment was very charming and well appointed. I had a delicious lunch and breakfast. In fact, the Eggs Royale was the most delicious breakfast egg dish, so please compliment the chef on my behalf. Lastly, the staff was the most attentive, which I truly appreciated.

Having an avid interest in history I would like to have accessed areas inaccessible to the public (understandably) such as the room below the champagne bar etc. :-).

Excellent hotel facilities with highest standard of service. Aside from this the hotel has a varied and substantial history with information available on site and online.

For the money...nothing!!

We booked last minute and only paid £150 for a double room, including breakfast. Bed was very comfortable, room was clean. En suite fabulous. Breakfast was top notch. The building itself is beautiful. Very friendly staff. The hotel has the most beautiful ladies toilets I have ever seen. Location is in the centre of Stamford.

There was an air purifier in the room that made annoying noises until we figured out how to turn it off. To coffee wasn't great, but to be fair I don't think I have ever stayed in hotel that does good coffee!

The George is perfectly situated with ample parking. The staff were all very polite and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Having a newspaper delivered in the morning was a nice touch. The room was very nice and the bathroom was great with a powerful shower and plenty of hot water. The bed was firm and comfortable, if not as large as we would have liked. We did not have dinner at the hotel, but breakfast was fantastic in terms of choice and quality.
