Only thing negative is i think mattresses on sofa beds are probably getting to end of their life. A bit wire like lumps in places and starting sag in middle.

Spotlessly clean in rooms and all public areas, bar and restaurant. Staff extremely welcoming, friendly and very helpful. Rooms are spacious, comfortable, have good amenities and nice modern bathrooms. Food in restaurant is excellent and great quality as well as extremely good value with most mains only £9 to £11. Stayed a few times before and would again and the high standard is always maintained.

We were in Room 2 which was the twin room to the front of the hotel facing into the road. It was noisy with traffic and the patrons leaving the bar were chatty..😂 But we were tired after a long day, and soon got over to sleep. The big bay window of this period property isn’t double glazed, so expect some traffic noise for sure.

Cooked breakfast was excellent, the black pudding and haggis were delicious. The staff serving breakfast were lovely, very homely. Great service. Ann Marie on reception was very friendly and accomodating, she booked our taxi to the wedding venue. We came from Lanarkshire and asked for an early check in which was honoured. Could not fault the staff. They were all excellent. Room was spacious and clean, shower was enormous! Beds were comfy.

Staff were wonderful, extremely helpful and "customer centred" Food was perfect, had breakfast, lunch and evening meals, high standard of food and great service. Large portions too!! Overall great experience , would go back and highly recommend.

Unable to have a glass of white wine with dinner as they only had Chardonnay and no other. Also was chased to pay dinner bill when I had already paid which I found embarrassing. Also just two of us staying but a double bed settee was also made up as a double bed which restricted moving around in the room

Can't think of anything that could be better only a bit softer pillows but that is a personal preference. Just a bit fussy about pillows .but there were plenty unlike some hotels so not a complaint at all .

I was at a wedding held at the hotel for my grandson and decided to stay overnight .This was a single room but had a large bed unexpected .very comfortable bed .overhead lighting for reading great . Show er was large and a beautifully tiled room .very clean. Staff were very nice . Good breakfast

A short 15min walk to the front was fine but took longer on way back as it was all uphill.

Lovely bar and restaurant reasonably priced and food was amazing. Will definitely be booking here again.

It’s an old house so sometimes I could hear people moving about in the neighbouring rooms etc when I was trying to sleep but that’s not anyone’s fault really. One morning a housekeeper came into my room at 8/8.30am-ish when I was still sleeping haha but I suppose she expected me to be gone as I usually was by then!

Was staying several times throughout the month as I was working up at the hospital, the hotel is in a great location in relation to the hospital, only a ten minute walk. Prices were very reasonable and the rooms clean and comfortable. Staff very friendly and helpful especially with my early starts and late check ins. Prepared packed lunches for me and kept my suitcase when I was on shift. Helped me when my shower wasn’t working one night, let me use one of the showers in an empty room which was soooo helpful and I really appreciated it!

Nice and elegant hotel in good location - near the city center, train station, gym and hospital. Room was clean and cosy, a little bit small but the space was used efficiently. Clean bathroom with nice equipment. Tasty breakfast and really nice and helpful staff.

Bedroom could do with a painting or 2 on the wall, it looked a little sparse and whilst the bedrooms are fabulously warm the bathroom was arctic! Had to wear socks to go in there! I was also disappointed in the morning as we made our way to breakfast. A sign on the door going into breakfast said 'Please wait to be seated', which we duly did. The staff member serving then turned to me after a few minutes of us waiting and asked what we were waiting for. I mentioned that we were waiting as this was what the sign had suggested we needed to do and she responded in quite a patronising way 'that's just for dinner, just find a table and sit down'. Not the morning welcome I anticipated! Perhaps the sign should be taken down in the morning or it should state that it is just applicable for dinner. Not a huge deal, but generally I don't go out of my way to pay to stay places where I am belittled.

Room was a little small, but adequate for our purpose. The shower was a little weak on pressure.

Friendly staff, cosy bar, stunning, carved wood panelled dining room. Hearty food and a massive, 'setyouupfortheday' breakfast. clean room with crisp fresh bedding, lots of available parking space even when hotel was busy.

Stayed here a couple of times with work now, great value for money - nice old and clean building, staff always friendly, cooked breakfast is brilliant and the bar is reasonably priced! Plenty of parking too.
