Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomJust a few small quibbles. Drinking water was not provided in the room. There was no electric point in the bathroom. Understandably - because of the quirkiness of the building - access to some of the rooms is tricky.
This is the third time we have stayed at West Dean and we love it. The location is fantastic and having unlimited access to the gardens and parkland is priceless. The staff are helpful and friendly and the atmosphere is enjoyably unique.

United KingdomUpholstery in the grand oak hall has seen better days and is not welcoming to sit in, which is a pity as the room itself is spectacular. Breakfast had a decent range of options but was let down by the food being lukewarm rather than hot. In the room, the ancient wooden sash windows didn't close fully - not a huge issue in spring but winter could be another matter.
Superb parkland setting, impressive main halls, extraordinary historical tapestries. Spacious and comfortable room, freshly painted, with a very comfortable bed and reading light. Very welcoming and genuinely cheerful staff. Not your ordinary b and b. An unusual and very lovely pick in a delightful area of the country.

The grounds and building are amazing. Beautiful walks close by and the décor of the building is like walking through hogwarts.

United KingdomIncluded breakfast could have been improved - all the food is kept under the hot plate, so gets a little dry. Freshly cooked breakfast would have been a great additional benefit
What a beautiful building and amazing grounds! This was such a lovely place to stay and would definitely recommend!

United KingdomRoom was a little overheated when I arrived, had to turn it off so I could sleep.
Gorgeous exceptional grounds, helpful staff. Appropriately traditional, no television or bells and whistles, but that is not why you stay there anyway.

United KingdomThe staff were very helpful, friendly and polite, especially the dinning room staff who gave us a warm welcome. The breakfast and evening meals were lovely, freshly cooked, locally sourced and a delicious vegetarian option. Our accommodation was spacious and comfortable. The grounds and parkland are beautifully looked after and have options for long or short walks plus access for all abilities. The West Dean Tearoom has a good choice for lunches and snacks, freshly baked cakes and friendly helpful staff. The kitchen garden and greenhouses are beautifully tended and knowledgeable staff are on hand for guidance. We will definitely return.

Excellent location. You are given a lot of freedom within the building to look at the works of art, to sit in the lovely oak panelled lounge or the dining/bar area. Helpful staff. You are able to explore the grounds any time.

United KingdomBuildings are old so some noise from room above. Breakfast was well cooked but they serve you from a buffet so small portions and toast beans and mushrooms all at best lukewarm.
Stuning location and interesting buildings. Staff friendly and helpful.

United KingdomCannot think of a single thing
As something of a history buff staying in such surroundings was quite special, the evening reception gentlemen were particularly helpful---it was a really foul evening weather wise and allowed me to leave my car in the "reception" car park rather than battle the elements walking from the regular one. Only wish I could have stayed a little longer (in better weather) to appreciate the grounds fully.
