Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomFood and drink are a bit on the expensive side. Rooms can get a little bit stuffy at night. No shower gel or shampoo in the showers.
The hostel is situated in an old building near an old mine in a beautiful location with many picturesque walks nearby. The staff are friendly and hospitable while the hostel itself is very clean. The facilities (dining room, showers, kitchen, toilets etc.) are enough for everyone and it does not get crowded. It is quiet and peaceful and the beds are comfortable.

The location is absolutely stunning, away from the nearest village. Facilities very good, with self catering kitchen and clean bath/shower rooms. Small rooms though, but enough space for a short stay

Helpfull and friendly staff, location great to climb Helvellyn, clean, good for cheap stay, good value for money, I would definitely recommend to anyone who want to climb Helvellyn as on track. Also typical stay just for bed and shower good to save money.

United Kingdomthe showers were too small. I only found two showers for all the people in the hostel. With covid just three years ago and still around they did not seem to be well ventilatedthere were hooks on the back of the door for your clothes however I think people need more space.
i liked the mattress and the water fountain outside although was not sure how much lead was in the drinking water.

United KingdomOnly the road going to YHA, it’s really narrow and its need really careful to reverse as my friends car was stuck in the small gap, but YHA HELVELLYN was really quick to help to tow the car.
The unlimited breakfast is excellent even sometimes the thermos was ran out of coffee we need to ask the staff to refill it. Then the 24hrs swimming pool next to YHA (the river) was so good for those who likes wild swim.

United KingdomCould do with shelves in the showers, to put your toiletries on and towel hooks in the washrooms - water pressure not great but do-able. Reading lights for individual beds and a mirror in the bedroom would be useful too.
Brilliant location. So peaceful and calm…great staff and excellent value for money! Great to have a bar and restaurant available on site (we didn’t use this time but would if/when we return for longer) and local pub within easy walking distance. The hostel was very warm and clean and there is plenty of equipment for self-catering too. lots of reviews mention the road leading up to the hostel but we didn’t find it too bad at all- so long as you take care.

United Kingdomwas woken very early on both mornings by the young children bouncing around and shouting. this isn’t the venues fault, but it would be nice if polite reminders about noise in early/late hours were given.

United KingdomThe only major downfall was the road up to the hostel which in anything without good ground clearance would be a struggle! Also poor signal for phone calls but unfortunately nothing to do with the YHA
Great location for hiking, clean facilities, and a good breakfast, everything desired from a good hostel/bunkhouse!

United KingdomWe didnt mind, but the track up to the hostel is alternately rough-paved (which is fine) and a bit potholed (which takes care but nothing else). We were in a standard small car and it was fine (and we did it in the pitchdark in the morning too). But be aware (and the hostel made it very clear beforehand).
Stayed the night before heading off an epic hike and as always the YHA provided solid, clean comfortable options for a family of adults that didnt cost the earth or require multiple hotel rooms. Hostels are not dirt-cheap anymore but standards have risen as well. The bed was comfortable, the linen clean and pressed, the bed made, good grub and ale provided by the restaurant as well as access to a self catering kitchen to make a pack-up lunch. Yes, we opted for shared bathroom to keep costs down, but I didnt see anyone else even using it and it was two doors away, so that was fine. And it was a modern, stylish bathroom too (nothing grungy at all). The scenery was spectacular and you are half way up the mountain as you leave the door. And knowing you are supporting a charity is a bonus.
