Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

GermanyNothing in particular. We arrived by car. Probably a bit difficult walking up and down the hill to visit the city of Varese but on the positive side it was really quiet.
The hotel is a charming and very nice place. We had a room with lake view. You really feel like entering an old palace. The breakfast was great. The food was very fresh (e.g. croissants were freshly baked). I recommend to visit the restaurant in the hotel garden (you have to make a reservation due to high demand). During our visit they had live music (opera singer) and it felt like a real dining experience. The dinner was very tasty.

SwitzerlandThe breakfast is very good, however the 2 coffee machines are neither fast enough nor good enough to serve and satisfy all guests. The coffee‘s quality does not quite meet the high standard people are use to (and expect) from Italian coffee.
Very nice hotel, perfect to relax. Superb pool, very good restaurant for dinner, nice garden with service from the bar, easy for spending a few chilled hours.

GermanyThe one negative thing that needs to be adressed is sound insulation. The old walls between the historic rooms are paper thin. No problem if you have silent neighbours. If it's a family with kids (like in one of our rooms), you will take part in their family life and understand every word. At weekends, the hotel seems to be a popular site for elegant, international weddings. We stayed on a Friday when the party for the celebration was already gathering. Even on the night before the great party, they created a lot of buzz on the hotel floors until deep in the night (people chattering, laughing, walking from room to room, doors opening and closing). They were beautiful people, but I was glad to have already left when they would start to party in earnest. To repeat, I loved this hotel and would definitely recommend a stay, but if you have an issue with noise, you should be warned.
Staying here is a gorgeous experience. The hotel breathes the spirit of a long-gone era. You can easily feel like living in a Thomas Mann novel. The views from the rooms over Lake Varese are breathtaking, the historic interior of the hotel has been beautifully preserved. The gardens with the elegant bar, the luxurious pool area, polite and well-mannered staff, the breakfast with view over the lake, this is all exceptional. I loved being here.

BelgiumSome extra care could be dedicated to the in-room entertainment system.
Beautifully located at the top of a hill, in a quiet area surrounded by tall trees. Plenty of parking for guests. The open air restaurants, weather permitting, is outstanding, as is the service.

NetherlandsBreakfast was good but not exceptional. Some of the seats are a little too close to the buffet.
The hotel is located on a hill so it's a long and winding private road before you get there. Its locations makes you feel far away from the city although it's really close to the city center. The idea is that you get the feeling that you're in a luxury hotel 100 years ago. The staff do a great job, they are formal but very kind and accommodating. The room we had was super spacious and the view from the room was spectacular. Its price range is a bit above what we usually pay for a hotel, but it's excellent value for money. The restaurant was very expensive but the portions were decent (not as small as you often get in an expensive place) and the food and service were super good. We did not use the pool but it looked very nice!

SwitzerlandThe doors are a bit noisy & if the “neighbors” are loud you can listen everything.
The location is a real oasis in town. The garden is so beautiful (I enjoyed a lot to walk with my dog around), the pool is big and has a great spot, the bar beside it is great, the open air restaurant is fantastic (food was delicious), the room is big and comfy, super dark in the night and the air con made a huge difference during hot days. Breakfast was really well served. We loved to be back at the hotel after a day exploring around. The service is super kind. I would absolutely go back!

Australiathe food options were a bit limited. we didn’t have a car so it cost 10euro per person to get to the town to eat. liberty restaurant was only option and a bit over priced… so we ended up eating a lot of bar snacks which meant a lot of toasted sandwiches

NetherlandsThere is an EV charging station, but unfortunately they charge a €20 flat fee regardless of how much you actually charge. Not worth it if you only have a hybrid vehicle. Cons of historical building: there is only one small elevator, we only used it when we had our luggage because it took so long. The rooms could use some renovations.
Fantastic historical building in an incredible location. The new 25m swimming pool is great also for people like me who really want to swim lanes, I was able to complete my trainings no problem. We had a room at the fourth floor with a stunning view over the lake, just like from the breakfast room. The breakfast itself was fantastic, lots of healthy choices, warm and cold options. Sure one of the best I've ever had. Staff was always friendly and helpful. There are different parking lots on the premises so if you don't find a spot at the first obvious one, ask at the reception. Staying at this hotel was a treat, sure worth the price you pay (we paid around €220 per night for a family room).
