Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

NetherlandsThe geniune friendliness and hospitality. This guest house is peaceful and lovely. The rooms are traditional Japanese, with tatami mats and futons, clean and honest. There is a tea/coffee station, and it is clearly a favourite destination for travellers, new and returning. The hosts are very helpful and kind. And the onsen! A perfect stay to offset more modern-style hotels in bigger cities.

United States of AmericaClean, homey, peaceful, welcoming. Wonderful onsen tubs (one indoor and one outdoor). The family was so helpful in explaining local transportation, arranging dinner reservations and helping us ship our luggage to Tokyo.

GermanyThe staff was extremely friendly and attentionate. We had a clean and spacious room, and the common area was also comfortable. The place is well located, close to the bus station, and the private outdoor and indoor baths were an amazing addition to our stay.

IrelandI don't like that the outside Onsen was extra charge. The weather was bad when we were there and having part of the experience of the property that we were stuck in locked behind further pay was a little annoying.
The place felt like an old traditional guesthouse. I loved the robes provided and the indoor Onsen. Also the staff were very kind

NetherlandsThe reception bell in the guesthouse doesn't always seem to work or I just don't know how old phone lines work. Could be both.
The room was suprinsingly spacious wih a nice view on the mountains (1 person room), heater, cozy futon and kimono/yukata included. The onsen is amazing! Most guest keep to their timeslot so you really have the onsen all to yourself. The breakfast is simple but tasty. Staff is supper kind and always willing to help. They speak english well. For diner there is an option for a free shuttle to the restaurant and back.

JapanThe only thing that I could "complain" is that the sliding door didn't close so there was a bit of light illuminating my face while sleeping.
Everything, the place was clean, the owners were helpful and the onsen was as nice.

NetherlandsWas a little bit cold in rooms in night. But nothing weird. I was in February, there are mountains and ryokan. But they have heater which you can set up how you want just to turn off on night.
Really comfortable place. I felt like on school camp. The spring bath (onsen) was amazing 😍. Truly recommend place and host. Speaks English very well and was super kindness.

NetherlandsNothing to not like. We tried to keep up with the exceptional cleanliness standards as Japan is known for and treated the accommodation with exact same respect.
Indoor onsen was something we used. It is easy to book - the system is old school "write your name on the matrix for your preferred timeslot" (instead of writing, we simply had to move the magnetic room identifier to the time slot (Japan = technology is unparalleled!). The room was spacious. We were in room 7 and had a private washbasin & a small balcony overlooking a small river and forest. It was perfect. Location of the house is just 2 minutes walk from the bus stop. There are signs right from the bus stop to get to the location. Buses from the stop go to all the main tourist attractions and to our surprise, there was a direct 2h30m bus straight to Shinjuku in Tokyo (also quite cheap). Location of the house is close the the village. Walk down to nearest Lawson superstore is about 10 minutes walk (or you can also take the bus - just a couple of stops). Internet in the room was good. Beds were super comfy. Toilets were clean, hygienic and technologically advanced as usual. The hosts were extremely kind and friendly and quite knowledgeable about the tourist attractions. They even have printed menus in folders for local restaurants in case you are looking for a specific choice of food!

GermanyThe only thing that comes to mind was that the room key had to stay at the property when we left to explore the town. It made me feel uncomfortable, but maybe in Japan you don’t need to worry too much about your stuff getting stolen.
Really quaint traditional house in the mountains, extremely welcoming host and staff, we would easily come back to stay here if we get the opportunity

United States of AmericaThis is no fault of the guesthouse but there can be inconsiderate guests who do not clean up after themselves after using the shared facilities.
The guesthouse is located near 2 bus lines so it was an ideal location to tour Hakone. While the walls were on the thin side--I could hear the child in the next room very loudly--the room was spacious and very clean. The shared facilities were maintained well and I especially liked that you can reserve private onsen sessions.

AustraliaThe fact that I didn't book for more than one night at the guesthouse.
Fuji hakone guest house was definitely one of our favourite accommodations whilst in Japan. Very friendly, thoughtful and helpful service throughout. We stayed in the *special* room with its own sink. It was absolutely lovely. The futons were extremely comfortable and we had a beautiful view of the bamboo tries surrounding the area. The highlight of course were the private onsens. We loved both but the outside onsen was even more wonderful. We only stayed one night, but we wished to have stayed another! Thank you for a wonderful stay.

GermanyGreat hospitality. Tetsuya, Lisa and Lighto were super kind and helped me whenever I needed something. They also helped me to plan my activities in Hakone and took their time to explain everything. On one evening I stayed in the guest house and Tetsuya showed me their ninja costume and kendamas - a super fun evening. English speakers will have no problem here. It was a bit far from the main attractions in Hakone but the bus station was only 2 min by walk away. Thank you for everything!

NetherlandsHot spring bath outside is extra charge (500¥ p.p.) The light in the hot spring outside was a movement sensor, but this meant that it constantly turned off after 30 seconds or so..
The hot spring bath outside was very nice. The staff was very friendly, explained us about the neighbourhood and things to do. They also lend us an umbrella to get to the bus stop when it was pouring! The futon (beds) were very comfortable and warm.
