Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. SingaporeNothing.
It was a wonderful experience living in a property that’s about 150 years old. We had the whole property to ourselves, and the facilities provided such as the kitchen and provision of coffee was great. The owner was kind to give us a tour of the property as well. The owner was so kind by picking us from the sakashita station!

We had a wonderful time here, the house is beautiful, we regretted that we only stayed one night. The host is very nice, he welcomed us very warmly and offered us a ride to Magome, where we started trekking. I highly recommend!!!

United KingdomJust to note that the bathroom is shared (this wasn’t clear when we booked) and it can be quite intimate if other guests are staying as the walls are very thin.
Lovely property that’s been very tastefully refurbished and a fun way to experience more traditional houses. Assi is very helpful and very generously gave us a lift to Magome for the Nakasendo hike. We also really enjoyed Sakashita - there were some good restaurants and it was great to escape the tourists.

TurkeyNothing. All was perfect. 10/10.
I loved everything about this place. Absolutely the highlight of my trip. And funny enough, there was no other guests so I had the whole place to myself! The town is very cute and the house is just incredible. It had everything a person could ask for in an accommodation. Everything works perfectly. The design is very beautiful. The house is even more beautiful in real life. I will never forget it. I think I told Assi how much I loved it too many times :) Assi was the most helpful host, he was very friendly, curious to know about my trip, he even picked me up from the station when I unfortunately missed the train. And dropped me off to the bus stop when I wanted to visit the near village. I hope to visit it again in future. Thank you again, thank you very much.

AustraliaThe guesthouse is a beautiful 110 year old traditional wooden structure. The futon was very comfortable, all the facilities were great, and the room was spotless. Assi was a great host. I'd recommend Guesthouse Shigi to anyone visiting the Kiso Valley!

NetherlandsThis is a traditional house, lovingly restored by the owner. The room (rooms, actually 3) I got was really large and way too much for a single traveler like me. The spacious kitchen has everything you need. This is a fantastic place for families or groups of friends, its 5-10 minutes walking from the train station. The host Assi is a great guy and super friendly. The photos dont do this place justice, it is really much better than it looks in the photos!

AustraliaI really enjoyed every aspect of this cosy stay. Aside from the excellent house and room, the host, Assi, was quite charming. With his good English he was able to put in the extra effort, always as helpful as possible for his guests. He even offered to drive me to Magome when I told him I was doing the old Nakasendo route! Great stay, one of the most memorable of my Japan trip.

NetherlandsWe loved the house and the garden! Beautiful! Altough the house has almost no isolation and is very cold, the heating in the room and kitchen works fine and there is a nice bath so it is allright. The nice music collection and the well equipped kitchen made the house feel like a home for these two nights. The neighbourhood is quiet and the town has several small shops and restaurants like a nice bakery and supermarket. The woman of the okonomiyaki place is ☀️. It felt all very friendly and authentic. Assi is a kind host and helped very well.

PortugalI loved everything!
My favorite accommodation in Japan. The house is beautiful, spotless, peaceful.. I found myself wanting to live there haha. And the host is super friendly and kind. He recommended an awesome place to have dinner, he drove me and the other guest to Magome so we could do the trail, AND he got me an adaptor that I was missing because mine didn't work. I was very grateful.

CanadaWe stayed for two nights so we could hike the Nakasendo Trail (Magome to Tsumago); allowing additional time to travel there and then time to relax before heading off. It seems a bit out of the way on the map, but that's exactly what we loved about the experience. Sakashita is in the mountains, is very quiet and non-touristy. If you love getting away from the hustle and bustle of the larger cities, then this will fit the bill. The host was wonderful; he drove us to the trailhead (10 minutes) and gave clear instructions how to return, via a short bus and train ride. We were given dinner recommendations and chose Shuku Rin. Good choice. The host there was fantastic; she wasn't open until 6pm, but opened early as she saw us outside, most likely looking a bit sad and lost. This was a shared home, with a shared kitchen, sitting rooms, toilet and shower. We consider ourselves fortunate that we had the house to ourselves. An absolute must; stop at the restaurant partway on the trail and have Goehi Mochi (toasted rice balls on sticks, with warm sesame and walnut soy sauce.) What I would do to have one now... Our regret? Not having one (or two) orders each.

PolandThis place is AMAZING. I didnt know, but it is a traditional Japanese country house, more than 100 years old, tatami floors, futon bed, little gardin looking to the mountains. It was one of my best stays in my Japan trip so far. Also, Ashi (the host) is super nice, he even drived me to Magome the next day free of charge. Thank you, Ashi. I recommend very much.

I really liked my stay at this beautiful old Japanese house. The futon bed was very comfortable. Sagashita is a small village but there are several good restaurants to choose from for dinner. There is also a supermarket and a small bakery. The host is very friendly and happy to answer questions. Good place to stay if you are walking the Nakasendo.

SingaporeA great stay close to Magome-juku/ Tsumago- juku. I stayed here after a day on the Nakasendo, and the guesthouse is just a short stroll from Sakashita station. Even though i arrived earlier than my stipulated check in time, the host came over right away to welcome me in, and very graciously gave me a tour of the house as well as recommendations for the area (the record shop with delicious curry rice and pasta!). Guesthouse SHIGI is beautifully decorated with traditional Japanese decor and a peaceful outdoor garden. So much care has gone into the creation of the house and it feels warm and homey. I truly enjoyed my time here and couldn't recommend it more
