Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Italy- From the pictures the facility seems in the nature, but is it actually in Kaga city, just so you know (I had a different impression from the pics) - No one in the staff speaks English, at all. I think this is something that could be improved, the staff was very young but none spoke a word in English and the communication was very very hard, on top they gave us wrong instruction to find the room (by ourself, and the facility is SUPER big and none helped with our bags at all). The impression I had with more than one was that they were not trained that much to deal with customers, and not only for the language. - There are no towels in the rooms which I found was super weird, you have to pick it yourself (which no one had explained to us since the lack of language) - The facility, as mentioned, is very big, and could use a bit of modern touch, it’s a bit dated overall
It was a bit different from what I expected, I liked the Onsen, we chose the private one, and it was really nice and beautiful. I also had a foot massage which was really relaxing and on point. The room was very big, and very traditional, so it was a cool experience, however there were a few things that left me a bit confused. We had a good experience overall but looking back, I would probably not choose it again.

AustraliaThe music is on repeat and never changes which is extremely painful to hear throughout the hotel. Staff attention could be slightly better particularly on arrival for a complete sense of welcome.
The property is lovely and spacious and although appears a little old it holds up well for value for money. Lovely Japan aroma as you walk in. Onsen facilities are great, outdoor garden could receive some care.

United KingdomI find the room quite dusty, I'm quite allergic to dust and because of that I was unable to experience the Japanese bed comfortably. Being so close to the tatami, I felt my throat clogged up immediately and was coughing non stop.
Staff were very friendly despite speaking limited English. We had the suite with an open air bath tub, the tub filled up quite quickly considering the size, nice view over the city. Breakfast was fantastic, early though, 7-9am. Onsens were nice and clean. Had a massage too, was fantastic. We booked in advance their transfer service between the station and hotel, service was on time and friendly

NorwayWhen checked in, the guy with glasses in the front desk was a bit rude. I prepaid on booking but he asked me pay for the bill, after clarification, another confusion around dinner booking. I asked for explanation, only get answers around asking me to pay. I feel frustrated, especially when I saw him get very impatient and using Japanese to complain about me( I can actually understand a bit Japanese). Front desk staff are always very crucial to all guest experience, it’s a bad idea to have rude behaviour there that ruins other great staff’s efforts. Wi-Fi is not very stable
Great shuffle bus service, and convenient transportation to yamanaka. The partner onsen is great value, highly recommended it. Dinner is also amazing, female staff are nice and welcoming to guests.

AustraliaWe weren't able to book dinner at the ryokan and there wasn't much open in town on a Sunday night. (It didn't help that the list of nearby restaurants hadn't been updated since 2019, so many had either gone out of business or changed their hours.)
More like a posh hotel than the traditional ryokans I've stayed in. Our room was very comfortable and we enjoyed the massage chair and outdoor bathtub.

AustraliaSeemed to be very little staff, it was very deserted and a little bit difficult to communicate (even with google translate). Understandable given it was Sunday and barely any guests.
Breakfast was great! It was very quiet being a Sunday night, we had the public onsens to ourselves. Nice touches like the complimentary icecream and snacks. Very relaxating and a great experience for our family.

United States of AmericaThere was a water strider in the private bath we paid for, nothing to do around the area, spiders in our own room's bath, room was a bit dusty. Mostly minor grievances - nothing that was strikingly bad.
It was my first time staying at a Ryokan. I thought it was a very pleasant and relaxing experience. I liked the smell of the tatami. The food was really good! Our room was very nice and spacious
