Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content

- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

No lift, so have to drag the luggage to the upper floors. The room has a musty smell at first, but got better.
Good but quiet location close to all the central things. Good showers and other facilities.

Walls were pretty thin, could hear the neighbour snore.
Loved my private traditional room which was very comfortable and pretty. The bathrooms were shared but the facilities were good and clean. Location is perfect!

The duvet smelled like BO, it hadn't been washed in a while it seems... The "curtains" to enter your bunk beds are 4 different pieces of fabric, why not just have one big curtain? The mattress was so thin, it was not comfortable at all.
Great location, not expensive. It's nice to have a space for your bag inside your bunk bed

I did not like the entrance and the showers did not have sufficient place to put the personal items
I liked the Japanese style room since we had a private room and not dorms for good price. Did not try the dorms. The location was also good

The smoking area is directly in front of the hostel and the cigarette smoke & smell can very easily drift into the lounge dining area.
Friendly, helpful staff who speak English. Dorm room size was OK and the futon mattress was comfortable. Good wifi. Free filter coffee was good. Kitchen well stocked and equipped for cooking simple meals. Good location near the peace museum and main roads for public transport. Easy walking distance to supermarkets and a fruit/veg shop. Shared bathroom and toilets were generally clean (always depends on other guests), just the weird showers that are push-button operated so you have to keep pressing it for water. Good lounge area with various books to read & chill. Luggage storage available.

The bed was just like sleeping on the floor.
I left my passport & money & credit cards in Kyoto security locker. The man from J Hoppers Guesthouse called Wide Owl in Kyoto to question them about passport, etc. The man at J Hoppers addressed an Envelope so I could mail key to security box back to Wise Owl in Kyoto. He asked Wise Owl to mail my passport to J Hoppers in 2 days! Wise Owl mailed my things in fabulous packing… it arrived on time. It was like a miracle!!! I love both hostels!!!!! The bed at J Hoppers was too hard for me… they added 2 more little thin mattresses… it helped, but still hard for me. My roommate did great with extra mattresses! We met other travelers there who were so friendly & interesting… loved it!!!! THANK YOU WISE OWL IN KYOTO & J HOPPERS GUESTHOUSE HIROSHIMA!!!!!

Showers had to be pushed to turn on. Toilet rooms could be cleaner.
Lively hostel and nice area for lounging and socializing. Private rooms were nice.

The female shower area needs a curtain or covering on one of the windows. Our room had a bit of a bad smell but not too bad.
Amazing traditional Japanese hostel with a cosy lounge (which had board games and free snacks). The Irish guy who showed us around was super friendly and happy to help us! One of my favourite stays in Japan

We stayed in a private Japanese style room. Was very clean with plenty of space for two people. Comfortable futons. Shared bathrooms were clean and private, never had to wait for showers. Good location near the peace park with bus and tram lines nearby

No elevator, which we didn't realise, so had to get our large suitcases up to the fourth floor.
Great location walkable to Peace Park and the main heritage sites of Hiroshima. Accessible via tram from the train station to Dobashi station. There was a nice atmosphere and great in-house laundry facility. Shared bathroom facilities on each floor were great and kept clean. Liked the opportunity to sleep in a traditional style tatami mat bedroom.

The floor could be felt under the mattresses at first but was okay once you got use to it. The sinks to brush teeth extra was in the hallway right by the rooms which was a bit weird.
Great location near the Peace Park. Could leave luggage in the storage room before and after check out. Room was quite big and had room for bags.

Bed is a little stiff even for a futon, and there are only stairs so be aware if you have any mobility issues. If you have large luggage I would keep it in the luggage room on the first floor and bring up what you need. Only real criticism is that I am not a fan of how the shower needs to be restarted every 30 seconds, but that is a minor complaint.
Location is less than 10 minutes to the leave park. Common areas are clean and well kept.
