Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

AustraliaGreat location, short walk to the Main Street for restaurants and bars. 10min walk to the ski lift. The hosts were fantastic, so helpful arranging discounted ski lift passes and rental gear. Private onsen can be booked as well which was great after coming off the slopes.

United States of AmericaHost at Oyado Uemasa is amazing, welcoming and super friendly. She helped us buy lift ticket with a discount. And during our short stay she provided snacks coffee and tea for us. They have a snowboard tuning/waxing station in the separate storage area, bring your wax and iron if you want to save some money and time at the slopes.

AustraliaA little further away from the gondolas and town centre but Nozawaonsen is small enough to walk everywhere so not a huge issue.
Lovely hosts who were so friendly and accomodating! The accomodation was clean and close to the bus station!

JapanNo complaints.
The host family was so kind and welcoming. They provided great recommendations and even allowed us to store our bags before check in and after check out while we snowboarded. The place was clean and well organized. The restrooms and sink areas were conveniently located. Host family went out of their way to make sure we had a pleasant stay. They even gave us some delicious local apples upon our departure.

JapanFor the price we would have liked to have breakfast included. Nothing else to complain!
The owners are a wonderful old couple that are really kind and full of information about Nozawa. They are reallu helpful. The room is a bit small but confortable, we can't complain at all. The public onsen nearby is very very hot, be advised! The location is excellent, 10 mins walking and you're either in the center of the village, full of nice restaurants and pubs or directly at the snow resort!

JapanNot too much to complain. Soundproofing is not great, but better than other properties at this price point. It is a shared bathroom, but that is also expected from this type of accommodation.
The property is larger than expected for the price point. We were pleasantly surprised with the cleanliness, breakfasts, and kindness of the owners! It is a 2-minute walk from a bus stop directly on the Nozawa Onsen bus line. You can either take the bus to Nozawa Onsen every morning for free or walk about 10 minutes. You can either sign up in the morning to use the bath in-house bath or you can choose from the many public onsens nearby. Great cost-performance hostel!

SwitzerlandI wouldn’t know what to criticize to be honest, everything was impeccable :)
The kindness of Nao-san and her family was unreal, we loved staying here and it was truly like staying with family. If you choose to have the dinner, it was incredibly delicious and I would recommend you try it at least once during your stay. Since we were there for skiing we were also very happy about the available bathtub/onsen and the well-heated drying room! Thank you so much for having us, Nao-san <3

Indonesia-
Uemasa is a little far from the main part of Nozawa Onsen, but it only feels far when the snow is pouring and it's -15 degrees out. Otherwise, Uemasa is only 100m away from the bus stop that takes you to Nagasaka Gondola. The drying room was amazing, kept all our ski gear warm and dry. They have a little shared bath downstairs which was lovely, but also Uemasa is only 100m away from the closest public onsen (Shinden no Yu). The hosts, Naoko-san and Kazu-san were exceptional. They were super helpful and informative - they helped us acquire discounted ski lift tickets, even when we asked for it on the day!

IndonesiaEverything was great and there's nothing we can think of that could be improved. We loved our stay here and wished it could have been longer!
We booked here last minute because we decided to come early to the mountain, so we had 0 idea what to expect. Naoko and her husband were so welcoming and kind and their little guest house had the cutest charm. The rooms were cozy and all traditional Japanese style. We loved how authentic the experience was. But the best part about the place was Naoko - she is the sweetest and so helpful. The showers were hot, the dry room was great for our gear, and the heater in the rooms quickly warms it up. The stay is only a 10 minute walk from the Gondola and there is a shuttle bus to get there as well. Sadly we had to leave after 2 days and switched to another place but Naoko's is much better, and we wished we could have stayed with her for the remainder of our trip. We will book with her again next time we're in Nozawa!

JapanWhile for the two-star minshuku price point it is pretty good, there are some tradeoffs in this class of lodging. Facilities are clean but essentially basic and there is no view or particularly unique sitting area outside of the tatami room. Walls are pretty thin, so if you get a group of loudly-speaking travelers next to you, you will hear them and I had to knock to ask them to quiet down around midnight. Location is near enough to walk relatively easily to main shopping areas and onsens in town but is definitely not in the center of the tourist streets or ski resort access.
Breakfast was homecooked and expansive with multiple options. Hosts were quite hospitable, and there were multiple small quality of life additions like connections with ski rental and shops and transport, recommendations for activities/restaurants, and information about events.

Very cosy little rooms in Nozawa onsen, the guests are incredibly welcoming and make you feel at home instantly. They were very helpful and gave my plenty of advises on how to enjoy my stay in the resort. The room are typical Japanese rooms, clean, with sufficiently thick futons. Even with back pain, the futons were not problematic. The breakfast is absolutely amazing and will feed you for the day before putting on the skis.
