Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United States of AmericaNo elevator. No evening meal options. The cafe closes at three pm.
Comfortable, excellent location, very kind staff. It's got a nice vibe. Nothing fancy. Right on the river. The baths were very comfortable and i was lucky every time I used them and had them all to myself. The rooftop bath has a lovely view.

United States of AmericaThe beds are too firm and the pillows too thin.
The location is close enough to walk into town, yet quiet and peaceful. The premises are immaculate, the hot spring facilities nice, and the restaurant good. We especially enjoyed the robes and slippers that we could wear to the restaurant. The service overall is excellent! Arigato!

United KingdomAnnex rooms are dated (think mid90s), sterile and lacking character. Small top floor onsen is nice enough, ground floor onsen ok. Breakfast token + ¥1000 for an odd breakfast is not great value.
Clean, welcoming staff.

JapanISadly the couch was a bit uncomfortable and would need better padding. There was no elevator in the building where we stayed and my pregnant wife found it a little tiresome to climb to the fourth floor.
The roof onsen was a great experience. The ground floor onsen was basic but functional. Service was excellent and everything was clean and tidy. Having a couch in our room was a nice surprise!

JapanBeds are very firm but it was ok for a short stay. No shampoo etc provided at showers in outdoor bath area so had to bring our own up. The public bath on the ground floor has all shower gels etc.
Great location next to the river. Room was spacious and everyone enjoyed the outdoor rooftop bath. Room was very clean. Cafe on corner of hotel building opens at 8am with set breakfast menu for ¥1200.

United States of AmericaThe hot tub on our balcony was small, and was extremely hot. There was no place to sit and just put your feet in. So we didn't use it, we went to the onsen instead.
We loved the experience of being in a ryokan. The food was so exquisitely prepared, and was never the same for 2 days. We had the best attendant - Bali- who was so ready to help us in any way. The massage spa was perfect, although their hours are limited. The onsen was clean and had nice products, and was very relaxing. Senkei was within walking distance of the main part of Hakone.

United States of AmericaIt was a little dated in some areas and while i understand it is a traditional experience- it was still quite expensive. I had also booked what i thought was a traditional breakfast for all of us since i had booked a traditional room - but the breakfast was a western one which was a shame.
The location - very close to the station. Staff very friendly and welcoming.

CanadaMy older mother was very uncomfortable using the traditional table/chair, but that's not the hotel's fault. It would be great if there's an option for a traditional room but with a higher table/chair option available upon request.
Friendly staff that provided recommendations on activities around the area. The view from the open air bath on the 5th floor was beautiful and serene.

United States of AmericaEverything was perfect!
We were looking for an authentic ryokan experience, especially food and onsen baths, and Senkei gave us more than we could imagine. We had two breakfasts and two dinners, kaiseki style, each meal served in our rooms, and presented by our server/host, Taiko, who described each dish. Each dish was its own work of art, on gorgeous dishware. We have a fairly experienced and adventurous palate for Japanese traditional food so appreciated the variety, with many items never before tasted. It was very plentiful, with soup, array of pickled items, seafood, hotpot dish, and more. We felt like we were in heaven savoring each dish in a beautiful tatami room with a view of the mountains and large cherry blossom tree in front of the hotel. The room itself was a unique traditional tatami suite called Youra, one of several special suites in the ryokan. It had a dining area with both tatami style table as well as a western style dining set, and separate alcove with futon on a platform, and bath area with deep bathtub with onsen hot water, and bidet and spacious vanity counter. The path to the suite is quite awesome, not a usual hotel structure, but built into a mountainside with waterfalls and gardens along the path. However an elevator is available also. The two public onsen, one an open airrooftop retreat, and another on the ground floor were both incredibly soothing and very special. We feel so lucky to have experienced the Hotel Senkei ryokans! It was a total immersion in the ryokan culture - culinary, aesthetics, and kind hospitality of all the staff. Note that the Hotel Senkei has two other hotels in its group, a business hotel and another hotel complex, all under its Senkei name, and they are a different type of lodging, more a typical hotel vs ryokan. From our arrival to departure, everything felt perfect and we felt like VIPs and very cared for.

United States of AmericaThe Japanese style room was totally beyond our expectation. The room is very clean, bed is comfortable and warm, bathroom has everything we'd need. In the room, it also provides full bottle of water in the water boiler, along with a full tea set! The in-room dinner and breakfast is a completely blow-away experience! The in-room onsen also provides the convenience to my daughter to enjoy the hot spring without going to the public area.
