Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United States of AmericaIt's a huge complex so might be a bit difficult for those with poor way-finding skills, but it is also huge because it has many excellent services and options for the guests, so a bit of a trade-off. Parts of the facility might feel a bit dated, but given that it has a long well-established history and reputation, that is probably to be expected as well.
Came here to relax after visiting family in the area. The greetings on arrival set the positive tone to our stay. The onsen facilities are excellent. Having a 24 hour onsen with a panoramic view was a great feature. The breakfast was very nice - having both western and Japanese options. We did not reserve dinner with our booking, as we saw it as an opportunity to explore the town, but I do wonder what we missed. The room was very spacious for the 4 of us. The fish in the koi pond were very impressive! I ran into two unexpected situations while there, and Suimeikan responded in an impressive way. One in our party from outside Japan ran into an issue with our room. We tried one night in the room, but after she still had difficulty after that one night, we asked if we could switch rooms for our next and last night. They put us into another room right away that fixed the issue. And then I left a shirt inadvertently there which they shipped to me in Tokyo (I paid for the shipping on arrival). For both those reasons, I would rate the service and hospitality here as superb.

SingaporeDinner - it was nice but we felt a little 'cheated'? We observed that if you dine in 2's, the wagyu beef you get serve is bigger size than if you are dinning in 4's. We were 4 and we were peeping at other table of 2's beef plate anticipating our wagyu beef. All table for 2 get a decent piece of wagyu beef cut up in square strips. Looks about 150grams each. However, we were only serve 4 thin slant-cut slices each. We don't understand why. Maybe each table 'quota' is only 2 slices and even if you are 4 persons, you still get 2 slices to share between 4. Hence the chef slant-cut the beef to make it look bigger piece when plating. We did inquire with the waitress but they were apologetic but nothing can be done. Breakfast - this is buffet style. A little frantic as it is a big dinning hall and people where rushing around getting their breakfast. The hall is not too sound contain,
Traditional and foreigners can get a good experience at this ryokan. All style dress in traditional kimono or yukata. They have staff who speaks English. Very organised check in process, you can tell they are well verse in receiving big volumes of guests. Very efficient. Onsens are great. As guests, there were 3 to choose from.

SingaporeThe map given to us was a bit messy but not too difficult to figure out.
Room was very spacious, and the hotel provided a lot of places for guests to relax. Garden was gorgeous, breakfast was good and the 3 onsens allowed us to find one that is relatively quiet.

United States of AmericaThe property was a little dated but still clean. Room was a little bit of a walk since we weren’t in the main building.
This is the only property where we were super impressed with level of service. There are many staff waiting at the door at the door waiting to greet you and after check in one will walk you to your room (the hotel has 2 buildings and we stayed in the not main one). We decided to add the kaiseki dinner, which was excellent. You can wear yukata robe anywhere in property (other places limit which floors you can wear it on. There are three onsens on site and we only had time to visit one of them but it was lovely. Would have loved to wander through all of them. Parking was free and easy (train line also very close to hotel if needed).

SingaporeLack of beautiful natural scenery from the ryokan room as there were a number of buildings nearby. Dinner was served at common dining area and felt a little rushed as server kept clearing the dishes quickly.
Easily accessible by foot from Gero station. Spacious room, nice dinner, equipped with gym and even good selection of local snacks at souvenir store. More than 1 location for onsen, outdoor as well as panoramic view. Breakfast had a wide selection ranging from Japanese to western.

AustraliaThe staff were very helpful. The hotel was very close to the station and there was a frequent free shuttle to the station. It was a short walk to the main onsen town as well. There were three hot spring baths at the facility including an open air bath. The room was very spacious. The breakfast buffet had a large mix of western and japanese foods.

the onsen were amazing with complete facilities and toiletries; they provided us with yukatas based on the sizes we gave. the half board meal was varied and tasted great, especially the hida beef! our room was a bit far from the main building but it had a beautiful view; they set up the futon during dinner and fix it up during breakfast. the property was really near the station as well!

United States of AmericaBreakfast: there is a nice variety of food, but it was not exceptional compared to similar ryokan style hotels I have stayed at in Japan. Onsen: the outdoor onsen is really nice and my favorite onsen was the third floor onsen with several pools. But the amenities at the sinks are not as good as similar onsen we visited in the Gifu region. Staffing: the staff are very pleasant and make you feel welcome. But the staffing level at the front desk could be better. In particular, the staff at the front desk do not have the time to be helpful with questions from guests about visiting Gero, and Gero is a little tricky to visit following Golden Week with almost all the restaurants shut down.
The room was fantastic, very large with a great view, The side room and patio are a real bonus and the washroom and separate bathroom and toilet make the set-up very nice. The location is perfect. Super easy access to the train station (without hearing the trains!), centrally located to the town and the trails along the river. The yukata!

beautiful setting with 4 onsen, close to the train station and they have a shuttle service waiting for you. The staff were gracious and helpful. An English speaking staff member accompanied us to our room explaining the amenities and recording our preferences for meal times and setting up and taking down our bedding. sweet and savory snacks awaited us each afternoon. The staff helped us select a local restaurant and called ahead to make sure they could take us. Each of us got a massage and my cousin and her husband booked a private onsen experience. The breakfast was amazing with many delicious choices

AustraliaHonestly I can't think of any negatives.
Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, food was excellent and fairly priced with options for cheaper meals as well as more gourmet options. Facilities were great, the three on-site onsens available were all easy to get to and well sized (my favourite was the open air onsen). The free samples of snacks from the gift shop were a really nice touch and were refilled every morning. All around amazing experience.
