Property is surrounded by forest and next to a beautiful water fall and water hole. Very relaxing. The onsen pools and showers were clean and you could sit and listen to and admire the water fall from the damn while bathing. The host was very nice and accommodating. The meals were beautifully served and delicious. The furniture and decoration were beautiful. We are so glad we stumbled upon Takimi Onsen inn. We also loved the fact that we had our own private onsen and did not have to share with other guests. What an amazing onsen and culinary experience.

The drive up to the location was gorgeous, the host picked me up from Tsumago and after my stay dropped me off to the Nagiso train station. While the host speaks limited english, he is a wonderful conversationalist and a joy to talk to. The accommodation itself is very spacious, the interior design beautiful, and the onsen baths were at really comfortable temperature for me. While I was unable to eat all of the food they served (I have a small stomach, not their fault), I really wish i could have, because I think it was one of the best meals I've ever had. I will definitely come back some day.

Beautiful setting, quirky but very comfortable accommodation, very friendly and helpful hosts and some of the best food we had on Japan. Famous inside and outside onsen too. And they will pick you up and drop you off in Nagiso or Tsumago. Brilliant last night in Japan.

A wonderful stay at Takimi Onsen Inn. We had the whole place to ourselves with an inside and outside Onsen, and an amazing view of a waterfall. It was very traditional and we wore kimonos during our time there. The staff were very friendly and cooked in front of us Japanese food. They picked us up form the station and returned us FOC. We went hiking in Nagiso and they took us to the start of the trail. A complete chill out place and a great adventure.

    Nothing.

Amazing place to stay! They only book one group at a time so you have a private residence all to yourself! The inn is nestled in a forest next to a river and waterfall so very picturesque. The best feature though is the Kaiseki meals they prepare just for your group. The chef is trained in french cuisine but made a wonderful japanese dinner for us. I would highly recommend this ryokan if you want an authentic experience in a beautiful setting. The private onsen was also a great feature. They'll also pick you up and take you to your departure point e.g. train station.

It was expensive as we were a couple only and the lodge can accept up to 6 people.

It was a beautiful, exclusive ryokan with exceptional views and outstanding food. Our hospitable and friendly host Koike did everything to provide a memorable stay. He helped us with transport to walk the trail and made sure we were safe driving in the winter time. The outside onsen with waterfall is an amazing experience.

The entrance was dark. It would be great if you came in early, before sundown.

Even though the location is distant, it provides peacefulness. Breakfast and dinner were both thoughtfully prepared. Additionally, it is delectable. The quantity is enormous; it is nearly impossible to consume it in its entirety. The thermal spring is outstanding. It is very relaxing to soak. The owner is exceedingly hospitable. I was generally quite impressed.

    Nothing! It’s perfect!

An absolute dream. We hiked from Magome to Tsumago where we were picked up by the inn owner, who drove us to the inn. We had the entire inn to ourselves so it was the perfect honeymoon stay. The dinner spread was simply outstanding and had all sorts of fresh produce from the area cooked marvellously. There are both indoor and outdoor onsen baths, with the latter facing a gorgeous mini waterfall. Staying here was one of the highlights of the trip. Can’t recommend it enough!

The inn and its location is absolutely beautiful! We walked from Magome to Tsumago and didn’t want to travel straight back to Tokyo since we knew we were going to be tired. Our hosts were so gracious and lovely. The food and hospitality were excellent! The onsen was also excellent. The inn is nestled in a forest next to a waterfall. Wonderful hosts and attentive to your needs. The home and its surroundings are absolutely stunning. We were the only guests for one night as we were hiking up to Narai the following day. The dinner meal course was an unforgettable culinary delight. Our brief stay was one of the best cultural experiences we had in Japan and I can only imagine Takimi Onsen during peak fall season in its magnificent glory.

What a fabulous experience. We arrived at this wonderful house in the middle of the woods to be greeted with warmth and kindness. After having enjoyed the wonderful Onsen, which was private as there were only two of us staying, we were then led through a lantern lit hall to a traditional dining room with an open fire on the floor where a delicious meal was prepared for us. A totally memorable experience. The following morning we were driven to the start of the Naskendo trail and had the best day before another wonderful meal in the evening.

We were there for our anniversary and it was spectacular! Koike and his wife and staff were the most amazing hosts in every way. They were sweet, kind, thoughtful and everything in between. The property is breathtaking with the waterfall and the private onsen. Truly authentic and memorable. We have traveled throughout the world and have to say, this is in the top five. The food - oh my - it was next level and we enjoyed every bit of it! Wish we could have stayed longer but so happy to have had this experience. Highly recommend!
