The food was still good, but did not blow me away, which is what I was hoping for.

The cottage/villa-style accommodation with adjoining private indoor & open air bath was incredible. The option for further private open-air baths just made it even better. Staff were super lovely, and the communal irori space with free sake & tea was a nice touch.

The isn't anything I dislike. I guess the only thing is that if you want to visit the Kurokawa onsen shopping area.it may be a bit difficult since it's a bit too far to walk but the roads in Kurokawa onsen are also very narrow and hard to drive in.

The onsen are pretty nice. They have a public baths and 3 private baths that can be used without reservations. Since there are only 12 rooms at the property and 6 of them have private onsen, the chances of the private baths being available are quite high. The meals were also great although there are no fancy ingredients like crab or lobster, everything was fresh and delicious. The meals are well balanced.

Fantastic range of indoor and outdoor public and private onsen at the property. (Note it’s not in Kurokawa Onsen town, but about 2km away. However, everything you need is here.) Super friendly welcome. Great traditional Japanese room. Stargazing, a traditional robata (firepit) and fireside sake were complimentary. Outstanding kaiseki cooking. It was so good that we are recommending it as a honeymoon destination to our family.

the temperature of hot spring was little bit too hot, even though endurable, but not able to bathe inside too long.

food was delicious. The staff were very kind and tried very best to explain the service and facility. Especially, the environment of 露天風呂 was awesome.

An unforgettable experience! This was the first time my wife and I visited an onsen ryokan and we were completely blown away! The facility is settled in the middle of nature in complete serenity. You instantly notice great attention to the tiniest detail in how the place is kept and managed. We took the half board option with the private hot bath and we loved every bit of it. The water was at the right temperature (pretty hot) and the food was absolutely amazing. A big thanks again to all the staff, the service received was on a level that I had never seen yet in my life and we travel quite a lot..

The onsens are great. The staff is amazing! We forgot a coat and they packed ir and send it to our adress, the package was neat. The food is also great, usually I am not a big fan of Japanese style breakfast, but here it was so delicious that it did not bothered me at all. The portions of food are quite big.

The dinner is very traditional and local. If you’re looking for a very traditional (but not ultra luxurious experience), this place is perfect. We were served grilled fish (a whole fish) on a plate. Not the most refined meal we’ve had at a ryokan but the experience was fun and the atmosphere was great. They do not have a Western breakfast.

The property is beautiful. The staff were very kind and helpful. The atmosphere was welcoming and relaxing.

Would have been great with a small shower in the room.

It was good, but also very Japanese. Perhaps give the possibility to choose a few "Western" add ons.

The staff was attentive and very polite. The room was clean. Onsen was opened throughout the night, outdoor and indoor. Breakfast and dinner were traditional Japanese cuisine and the menu is changed everyday. The onsen works wonders for body fatique (at least speaking for myself). Definitely will return.

Everything was just perfect. Every little detail was thought off and the staff was absolutely amazing in making my stay become like a dream. The food was amazing too, a well balanced breakfast in the morning and a full on Kaiseki dinner in the evening. I had my own indoor and outdoor Onsen which was also great. It was actually the best stay I've ever had in my entire life.

It's in a secluded-ish mountain area that is not extremely easy to reach but that's also a lot of the charm of the place! And they do have pick up service if you're not driving.

Food was impeccable (though if you're a very conservative eater, perhaps it'll push you a little out of your comfort zone since they serve seasonal and classic Japanese food; I think it's still absolutely worth trying). The place was serene, beautiful, and kept meticulously. Staff was incredibly kind and patient.

Our room is a literally a house with an open air onsen in the backyard. The public baths are huge, like a swimming pool. They also have private bath for guest use (apart from the one on our room) and they are all very nice. The staff were exceptionally helpful- they went all out to help us to find our transport to Nagasaki when we failed to book our ride back to the JR station. Last but not least the food, it was obvious the food was fresh and delicious. It was very obvious and much care was put in the making and presentation of the food!

Everything about our stay at Yamashinobu was excellent. The dinner and breakfast provided at the ryokan were delicious, and they accommodated my pescatarian dietary restriction. The public and private onsens were well maintained and very peaceful, as was the outdoor bath in our suite. The staff were all welcoming, friendly, and helpful. The location was great—close enough to walk to the town of Kurokawa Onsen but far enough to be very quiet and peaceful. We appreciated being picked up and dropped off at the bus. It is a little far from Fukuoka and Kumamoto, but getting there by bus is very easy and inexpensive. If you have the time to visit, I highly recommend doing so.
